Bad memories of the 2014 WC :( wish I could block them out too

Guarín was a solid player. Inter was a bit unfair to him and hurt his career then he wasted away in China.

he had a hot wife and then left her for a hot model that was the only real thing reported about him in the last few years

What I never understood was that Pekerman essentially froze him out of the process and continued to keep him on the bench and only use him on rare situations - or better said Pekerman did not feature him consistently. He found a system that worked with guys like mac20, aldo, Roca, Edwin, Abel and Mejía.

If memory serves Aldo got hurt and carbonero was included and mac20 played in Saudi which I guess killed his chances?

I always liked Guarin, especially the year when Porto won everything - he was so clutch that year with critical goals and his B2B play was strong.

Guarin just seemed to be the type of player who was not good enough within Pekerman's system. He is not really an attacking player with creative prowess like Mac10. He was not the most disciplined to be a Defensive midfield getting carded in certain situations if I remember correctly.
He was at his best when he was next to James and behind Falcao at Porto which was a totally different system as more of a Central Midfielder role.

Guarin didnt fit also in inter system... with all coaches show the same disciolined and organization problem of pekerman.

Pekerman took him when he goes to china

For me Guarin lack of professionalism and discipline were his biggest enemies like other talented footballers. His characters supposed to make him as one of the best footballers of the national team in my opinion but somehow he managed to ruin it. He was the only one to blame with having such a mediocre career.

What was an example of lack of professionalism? Not doubting you but am curious to hear because I felt he could have been capable of so much more for his career

Never heard any stories about him. I just never came across any rumors or innuendo about off field or other matters.

Not specific stories just that he never really took the chance that he received in Inter to prove and become a better footballer. He should've put much more effort in order to make a much better career in Europe. Than he gave up everything and went to China. which means he preferred money over his career. Not judging him but it's a shame because he could make it big in Europe.

he also entered in the social media game between his ex wife and his infedility.....if he wants to do it no problem..............but he was happy feeding social networks gossip posting pics.....if m,edia started to talked about that was because for he wasnt a problem.

ps: his best friend of inter was icardi.......not the best example of behaviour and professionalism.

Peak Guarin actually would fit pretty well in the system we are using now, he's for sure an #8 and in Pekerman's system we used 10's and 6's mainly. He's obviously past it, but I always liked Guarin but he couldn't adapt to enough systems and seemed to think of himself too much as a 10 but he had his best success playing as an 8 and working hard defensively, when he got away from that he suffered.

I wouldn't discount in completely off the NT radar. He's still a good player, just aging.

He isnt close to play as a top level player. Slow, lazy, disordered.

Only this week played 90 minutes since his arrival. A week ago agsint flumimense, his coach said in press conference that he regreted using him as starter.

So....i hope he is out of the radar of the NT

I would maybe consider him for the Olympics (assuming we qualify) like Pabon was used last cycle.
Other than that I don't think he adds much.
