I have no idea but I would think these players are not whining about these awards as much as some parents on this thread
ACC Seeding - I guess it didn't matter 2 vs 3 seed but VA had a game cancelled? so had better win% but less points than FSU. Interesting but UVA has now beaten FSU twice. Does that make them better prepared for today's game than the UNC win over NCState? (Stinks this overlaps Liverpool/City today but since it's on ESPNU, I can record it!)
I am just happy to see other players were selected besides the top 3 teams. With all the whining you would think none but those were deserving. If you took out the freshman from the 1-3 teams and left them on all freshman team, you'd have more room to slip in more of your "perceived" passed over players from your top 3 favorites.
Well, it's not always the Big 3. Last year's defensive player of the year came from Clemson and the overall player of the year from Boston College. If I was in bitch mode, I would also get worked up about NC State's Ricci Walking who I thought was much better than many of the numerous midfielders ahead of her.
An outstanding ACCTCG today. UNC wins in 2nd OT. They deserved it, but it could have easily gone the other way. Both teams had hand balls in the box that were not called. The one on UNC was a little more blatant. UNC was the aggressor, but UVA very dangerous on the counter. Jarrett's speed is always dangerous. Having watched as a neutral observer, I can now see why Bell from UNC was the ACC Freshman of the year. She's a stud right now! Maycee Bell deserves 1st Team All ACC as a frosh. Ordonez is just a player that is in the right place at the right time and strikes the ball with a chance for a goal every time. 2nd Team All ACC seems about right. Jarrett deserved at least 2nd team IMO. Maycee Bell has the look of a future full NTer. That future may not be very far away. So IMO UNC #1 overall seed Stanford #2 UVA #3 ???? UCLA? Arky?
Bell absolutely is very deserving. I also agree about Ordonez, most of her goals came early in season against lesser opponents, 8 of her 14 goals this year came against UC Irvine, Miami, Liberty and East Carolina.
But overall, I'm pretty happy. We played the strongest, deepest, fastest team pretty even, all while missing three of our top 15 players. Constant was in a fitness race for Friday's game vs FSU, so I have to think she's got to be pretty close now. I haven't heard about Sumpter, and I didn't see her in sideline shots today, but late in the game Friday she was on the sideline and walking without obvious pain. I have to hope she can be ready by late in the week. I grew up as a child of the ACC, back when it was an 8 team league and four were from North Carolina. I get that this is/was a Tobacco Road league. But you'd think with all the expansion and dilution of the of the North Carolina regionalism, with teams from Miami to Boston and Syracuse to South Bend, we'd be able to play games somewhere other than UNC's "2nd" home field. That's the reason I was pulling for you guys last year.
I'm not the one to answer that question. Someone with more intricate knowledge of futbol rules could. I'll tell you what I see. 2 players going for the ball. Both playing ball, not the opponent. They arrived simultaneously, in fact the UNC player may have gotten their 1/100th of a second sooner. If that's a foul, maybe someone can explain the rule. I'm open to it. The better question for Virginia is why ?McCool? got a foul called on her in the box, when at the least it's a no call; at worst a PK. Post that video and then help me understand IF that was the correct call.
Is it a dangerous play b/c Pinto lowered her head to head the ball? When the GKer is getting there at the same time, does she have some advantage by rule? I seriously do not know! Val, console yourselves with a #1 seed until the CC.
Usually players err on the side of caution instead of charging an on coming keeper, Pinto went full send. It was a very dangerous play hence why I think a card was appropriate.
For comparison purposes, this is the phantom red on Gorzak from our game: Gorzak was trying to get out of the way, sort of, and made very little contact. Pinto took out a keeper and there wasn't even a foul called. The ref ended up giving a drop ball to Virginia after the Pinto collision.
Thank you. I am fully consoled. This has to help the women's confidence, knowing that they were missing who they were missing and still it was a 50-50 game. If by some miracle we can get Petersen back by Sweet 16, I'll feel pretty good about my chances. I do look forward to the day when I don't have to see Alessia Russo anymore. Man. she is always at full speed. I really liked her first goal vs NC State on Friday.
it a reckless challenge on a defenseless goal keeper. At mimimum it’s a foul and yellow. At worst it’s a straight red. How the ref gave nothing is atrocious.
That’s how UNC plays though. Intentional or not, always running through people. Saw it at Stanford breaking Davidson’s foot last year in extremely reckless tackle. I appreciate their tough mentality, and I rather have that than the other way around, but I do think they get away with it more often than not. Really unfortunate for UVA GK...
Does FSU end up with the 1st 2nd or 3rd 2 seed? I want to know which 1 seed's bracket we end up in. I'm guessing they'll bracket us with either UCLA or Stanford. Fair enough! It wouldn't be fair IMO to bracket us with either UNC or UVA, because part of the NCAA fun is to see ACC and PAC teams square off.
UNC must have a separate board they are posting on. They used to have a yearly thread that had 6 to 800 responses.
Stats can mislead (and can also be counted incorrectly), but with UNC up 10-1 on corners, 16-4 on shots and 6-2 shots on goal, thought UVA was fortunate to take the game into OT. Have not seen possession stats, but might be pretty close though UVA spent a lot of time passing the ball backward out of the UNC pressure. Hate to hear about the UVA goalkeeper injury and it was a difficult play to watch, but while Pinto is an aggressive player she is not dirty, and on that play she had her eye on the ball the entire way, got to the ball before the keeper, and was clearly attempting to head the ball vs. make contact with the keeper. In a different scenario if a keeper forcefully extends her hands and arms to punch or grab a ball and makes contact with the ball prior to the field player making contact with the ball, and through that action contacts the head of a field player violently with her hands and knocks her out, I don't believe a foul would be called on the keeper, so can't see a foul there.
