He came off the bench in the 55’ for Maz. Couldn’t tell if Maz picked up a knock or wasn’t playing well.

Ajax won 4-0 at home against Utrecht. It was 3-0 when Dest came on.

    Actually "unbenched..."

Ten Hag giving Maz a lot of rope. Maz not really doing high-level macrame.

Report Maz came out due to some "inconvenience" - team doc sat with him once he came off. Don't see anything more substantive yet. Reports are he had a decent game. I haven't watched this one yet.

It's been a long time since La Masia has supplied anything to Barca. Barca B -- if he indeed does get promoted and does play -- is still very far from the first team.

KLDF is young, so there's still time to develop some of the physical attributes needed, but it was pretty clear at the U20 WC that he does not have the athleticism necessary to play Barcelona right now.

Perhaps it will come, but Barcelona is such a high standard that he can have a very successful career and never make it there.

It is no longer true that Barca promotes from within to a large degree. The vast majority of Barca B players never play for Barca or even in a top division.

    I beg to differ

Keep in mind that they just don't promote just because. The player has to be good, so if he is good enough he will a look.

I was expecting more from him at the U20 games but his game was way too predictable for that level. He was not slow. Keep in mind he still young enough to play for the next U20 squad.

A reason why some don't think Llanez should be moved up to the U23's as he's a similar age. Pulisic did it but we can't expect everyone to be on his level. Very few for any country do what he's done at that age.

IMO, he was slow for a winger. He had the skill to create separation but he couldn't accelerate past anyone to create space. It was pretty noticeable, especially when you could compare him to someone as electric as Llanez.

He's young. That kind of thing can still improve at this age.

Maz getting good reviews for his 55 mins. Not seeing anything on an injury yet, but there is a general sense that "Maz is back" which may mean more bench time for Dest.

I didn't see it that way. He is as fast as Dest but his issue was he was over-thinking his moves, thus, allowing the defense to read him and anticipate his next move.

I just finished watching the game and I didn't see that at all. I thought he was pretty meh. I thought Dest played OK. His pace is legit and he had several nice passes and take-aways... but he didn't do anything to distinguish himself well above Maz.

while OT, I wanted to say as someone who's watched every U-20 world cup since 2007.... Llanez and Konrad are both excellent winger prospects at that level. We've had many 19 year olds that you can tell just aren't going to be professionals that showed much, much worse. Both of them barring injury or career elevation will be on the next U-20 squad and it will probably be our best two wingers at that level ever....

In ALL sports you learn to project younger players and both of them have some projection to their games that suggest in two years you are going to see some pretty big improvements. I follow Baseball a TON and the most important thing I look at with young players tends to be their age relative to their level, as well as certain handpicked stats (for pitchers it would be WHIP, and for hitters it would be their strike out to walk ratio). There is a similar analysis you can do for futbol players. I would be pretty shocked if either's floor falls below let's say Bundesliga 2/MLS/Championship football.

Back to Dest though. After all of the excitement of him being forced to make a choice etc... It's very easy to forget he just turned 19 last week. Maz turns 22 next week and didn't really break out until last year. From a prudent selling club point of view, it makes that most sense for them to rebuild his value if you think they are on an equal level. It also reduces expectations for Dest, which should help him continue to translate at the professional level.

I view all this as overwhelmingly super logical and beneficial to all parties involved.

Finally kinda watched the game. Promes and van de Beek were very good.

Really didn't notice either Maz or Dest all that much. Dest had a kind of feisty toe-poke "steal" that led to a good chance right after he got on, and was a nice part of a bit of a tiki build up later, but Utrecht was toast by the time he came on and there's was not that much going on for him to defend. Had one or two good full-field runs. Guys got good lungs.

Didn't see why Maz went off. Didn't notice a knock, but I was not going frame-by-frame.

Nothing at all wrong with Dest losing his spot to a player of Maz's quality, especially since he only really gained it from his prior injury. Dest is young and there will still be plenty of minutes available. He's made himself a true first teamer, and that's not even a thing we'd have thought was possible 6 months ago.

I'll be in Amsterdam in a few weeks and was going to potentially beg the wife to let me sneak off to the Ajax game on that Saturday night, but with Dest's time limited, I may just settle for a sweet new jersey.

Saw someone (rando French fans, not official) say Maz' knock was minor. Haven't seen anything close to official anywhere.

Ajax has lots of matches, and Dest and Maz are both versatile. I think they'll both see minutes going forward, don't worry. And Dest is now fresh but not rusty for the Nations League...

I'd like to add that since Dest is so young he shouldn't be playing every game so that he doesn't suffer long term injuries later. Not sure when a good time to play multiple games a week is but don't think 19 is the age. I even wonder if 21 is and Pulisic may have gone from not enough minutes to too many.

    Today's Ajax rumors ...

Ziyech to Tottenham (someone's pushing this one hard)

Onana (not auto-correct Obama) to Man U

Bad news for Neres, who injured his knee v Chelsea - out until at least the restart in 2020.

  24. Mazra is on the radar of several epl clubs already after his decisive contributions to the CL run. He as a result of his injury was not on the lists of the clubs, but given Mazra is gradually regaining his last season's form the chances are big he's moving on in the summer and Dest stays for the rb spot.

I feel like Dest has shown enough to convince the Ajax brass that they don't need to invest in a new RB to replace Maz. If that's true, then Dest has already had a very successful season.
