the fact CP looks pretty damn good at the moment is a bonus.

I, however, am withholding all judgments until CP gets a proper run with Kante in the side. To me, Kante is a legit starting 11 player in every side in the world so to not be playing with him makes everyone's job on the pitch more difficult. This Chelsea squad will be very dangerous with Kante (and Rudiger) back in.

From Whoscored for Hazard, 2012-2013 season. I only pull EPL and CL/EUL games. Cup games are not rated.

    EPL: 2,640 minutes, 9 goals, 11 assists (g/a per min 132)
    CL/UEL: 906 minutes, 1 goal, 3 assists (g/a per min 226)

If CP ends the EPL campaign with 10+ goals and assists, he would matched Hazard's output. I think this is very doable. Pulisic is already 1/3 of the way there, with much better g/a per min numbers.

    This.

With both Kante and Emerson in the game, CP can spend more effort on the attack instead of defending the mistakes/gaps made by Alonso. I think anytime Alonso is not on the field, it's better for CP.

I am not sure how long Kante will be in Chelsea blue. When healthy he is one of the best central midfielders in the world but has been struggling to stay healthy for a while now. I could easily see him elsewhere by this time next season. I would prefer he stay healthy and contribute on the regular though... it would make this a better Chelsea team.

Agreed about Alonso too. James replaced him at half and I really like what Reece brings to the table. If you then add Loftus-Cheek into the mix then the I think the team just needs another world-class defender or two. If Willian and Pedro are both gone then they will need another winger as well. I don't think they need to make a Sancho splash at the position... as I like CP and Odoi as the starters for the foreseeable future... but they need someone who can score and play some D.

Agreed..if he gets 10 goals and around 10 assist in just the EPL, that'd be good for him...Let's wait and see if he keeps that up since he got 3 goals in 1 match.

Right now, he's doing better than his competitions and that's all that matter "at the moment."...But as I stated, Chelsea will upgrade CP's competition in the next 2 transfer windows, so he will still have to improve his ball-possession and decision-making, final-balls...If he can do that, I believe his production will most likely rise and his spot will be safe.

If Sancho comes, he'll play on the right-wing and CP gets to keep his spot at left-wing....He simply have to hold-off Adoi but after that, Chelsea will continue to re-inforce at his position unless CP continues to improve greatly.

10 goals seems doable. I'd like to see him rack up more assists though.

Hell, if he were able to finish with 10goals, 15 assists, that'd be Incredible for a debut season.

Agreed. You already got 2 young and talented wingers in Odoi and Pulisic, does not make sense to bring in another expensive and young 18 yr old winger. I could imagine Chelsea bringing in an experienced winger maybe around 26-28 yrs old to replace both Willian and Pedro. I would also look to Dembele's struggle at Barca as cautionary tale before splashing over $100M for a young winger in Sancho.

If Chelsea can find another defender like Virgil out there that be amazing. I also believe Chelsea should upgrade on their striker. I like Tammy but I think he's still a few years away from being their leading lone striker. An Auba might do wonders for Chelsea attack. Those would be my 2 upgrades for next summer, a world class central defender and a world class striker. I think both Giroud and Bats could be gone next summer.

I don't think this is going to happen. You can't depend on 3 U21 wingers if you're a CL and Top 4 EPL team.

Why not? All these guys are not ordinary wingers. Put the experience more on D and central and let the kids run wild.

A $73m player is going to get a lot of chances. Told ya. No loans, not getting benched for long.

Still, he had one good game and one where he was ok. He needs to keep performing.

Sure, it's fun to see a bunch of kids run wild but you're not going to win lots of trophies with a bunch of kids. Just ask Ajax and Dortmund.

I dont know.. Dortmund does okay coming in second most if not all years ...

Ajax went to semifinals last year and pretty much win their league every year.. so why not run em wild.

I don’t see why one would spend scarce resources and interrupt the progression of these talented young wingers by buying another top wing player.

Not to mention disturb the growing chemistry.

For all that this forum has bagged on Mount and his perceived more favored position in Lampart's eyes, I could see a growing camaraderie and looking to each other in play during this successful stretch.

I think the players on this team like each other.

sigh I should know better than to even toss around a name like that because people will just glom on without understanding that I simply named an exemplar, or in this case the most exemplary of examples, which served to illustrate my point that possession lost was not useful in and of itself. Or as I stated and apparently you agree with - Stats without context are useless.

I seriously doubt Abramovich is looking forward to spending big money in Chelsea at this point. For one, he's persona non grata in England, and two, he's been looking for a buyer for a year already.

    https://www.rt.com/sport/471661-could-roman-abramovich-sell-chelsea/

The billionaire owner has been rumored to be keeping his options open with regard to a potential sale, and his lack of appearances in the stands or corporate boxes at Stamford Bridge in recent weeks has sparked talk of the owner's passion for the club potentially waning.

The UK government's more stringent visa requirements for wealthy foreign nationals is thought to be putting the squeeze on the Chelsea owner. But despite his relative lack of visibility at the club recently, UK outlet the Daily Mirror reported that it is believed that Abramovich has no intention to sell the club.

Dortmund had the titles on their hands after taking the 6-9 points lead of Bayern, and lost at the end. Happens more than once.

Ajax were up 4-1 against Chelsea and ended 4-4. They were up 2 goals at home vs Spurs last year, then lost the game.

What's common here? Youth and inexperience. You want a god balance of youth and experience/veterans on your team. Not just a bunch of kids running around.

Well, I'm too lazy to look up all this stuff, and it is late here. But anyway, were the two Ajax yellow-red cards from younger players? Was Chelsea helped by the young inexperienced players at all in comeback? Was Dortmund coached by an absolute dork? I think there are too many variables at play and too few examples given here to conclude that youth cost Dortmund the title last year and cost Ajax the win against Chelsea the other night. My point is a mix of youth and experience is needed for a successful team (which I think we agree on) and on the wings I'd prefer youth and speed and reckless abandon. I'd want experience central and on D (but no fossils). IMHO of course

<sipping beer and smiling><trying to add to the atmosphere of the discussion as others have mentioned here, no antagonism intended.. just like to discuss and play devils advocate>

My point is, possession-lost "does" matter if you're not consistently creating twice as many chances and successful take-ons/dribbles....

CP is among the leaders in the EPL in dispossession "per 90 minutes"...but he's not among the leaders in "chances created", "successfull dribbles" or "key-passes"....This is why you can't ignore this stat when it comes to CP.

So I fully believe it is a useful stat and I believe it was one of the reasons Lampard benched CP..The other reason was work-rate and failing to track back on defense to help the full-backs consistently like Willian.
