I think it's been more about the back line being incredibly solid. We've seen chima Ruiz teams before and he's no mourinho or Wenger.

I couldn't watch this. Was this a fluke result or did Chima finally awaken to his true potential?

Not flukey at all. You would get that impression from the US media and the US board here because they supported the narrative of having the hardest group in the tournament. Mexico made Japan look subpar despite Japan dominating possession. Most of Japan’s best chances came after we were up 2-0. Great defensive order from the team, an intelligent play off a corner led to our first and a counter play that caught Japan with their pants down lead to the second.

The defense has been the team’s strongest aspect

Hope most, if not all, these guys pan out and develop even further over the years. It’s sad to see how many kids from the Sub-17 to the Sub-20 just disappear

Surprising and solid win against a tough side that were the favorite. This Japan was a good team that gave the Netherlands "un baile" in what I thought was the most impressive game in the group stages. Say what you will but Chima had this team on top. Best game I've seen from a team coached by him ever.

It’s not sad, it’s reality. Many of the players who will play on the senior team will have never played for youths. Many who played in youth will never develop further. You just hope some continue on their path.

  9. So you know where to send them to:)

You can't really be the Group of Death when you have the Solomon Islands and it's a question if you can score but of how many goals you will. If anything I think the Group of Death ended up being Group C.

Taking bets for how long it will take the commentators before they let us know El-Mesmari was named Bruce because his mom is a Bruce Lee fan.

Korea overall looks better. Way more ordered, faster, better chemistry between players.

Some of our dudes have an awful first touch. Makes the high pressing from the Koreans way more dangerous.

Awful habit from some to always clear the ball toward the center instead of the wings.
