Not a bad move for the kid. It looks like Sint-Truiden has invested in a young squad in the last year. Hopefully that bodes well for Durkin. I really like his game and this could be a perfect opportunity to cut his teeth in Europe.

wouldve been better to go to sint truiden first, transfer to leverkusen and dominate, then get a big money transfer to inter, huh?

A tweet from Pablo Maurer has the buyout fee at $2.25M. Based on a skim of T'Markt data, that's within the range of some fees the club has paid for players in recent years, though on the higher side.

Sint-Truiden is in the business of making low-risk investments in young players with an eye toward flipping them for a profit within a year or so. Durkin will be the second Yank on the squad after Illinois-born Dan Schmidt, who plays for Japan internationally.

There are some things to really like about his game but some glaring weaknesses as well. Has reasonable positioning and passing eye/range but is often let down by a lack of athleticism and the occasional poor first touch. He's a bit of a long shot imo, but has a chance

“I know that the option to buy price is maybe a little bit high for Belgian clubs but that's 100% my goal is to stay over here,” he added. “If that doesn't work out, I think I'd only become a better player coming back to D.C. United. But my goal right now is to prove to the coaching staff every day, and the general manager here that this is where I want to be and for them to hopefully extend that option to buy.”

I'd like to see Durkin's name in larger font next time - thanks in advance!

I'd like not to see Inter in the thread name at some point. Guess it'll never happen.

Was it expected Durkin wouldn’t get game time? A year ago he was a decent prospect, but has now been mostly forgotten.

Unfortunately it seems like his U-20 play was a harbinger of things to come. Obviously most prospects never make it, but man compare hype versus reality and it's hard to say who's the bigger disappointment between him and Carleton.

You know what to do @bungadiri or @TheFalseNine - promotion time.

Anyway, good for Durkin. Tough competition with Santiago Colombatto for minutes.

Colombatto is an excellent player that St. Truiden expects to sell quickly. Colombatto was a starter for Argentina's 2019 U-20 World Cup team and is now on Argentina's U-23 team.

If Colombatto moves this winter, hopefully that will open the door for Durkin.

Probably no coincidence that Durkin made his debut immediately following former coach Brys's firing. Reportedly the manager was at odds with the Japanese-run front office by way of refusing to play foreign acquisitions like Lee Seung-Woo (South Korea's #10 in Russia and a 7 figure transfer) and Vietnam NT attacker Nguyen Cong Phuong. Haven't read anything to indicate that Durkin is one of the players of contention, though.
