I have made my decision. I think he is a good player and have always thought he was. He's not Dani Alves or Ronald Koeman, but he makes every attacker that comes down his side think. And most have chosen to try the other side.
what’s interesting is that if an EPL defender doesn’t look like Neon Deon even when playing against Man City (et al), he’s deemed to be worse than minor league players competing against attackers who aren’t close to being a high level talent. there’s no context.
I wonder if Benitez was a genius to start 5 in the back or if 5 in the back makes any coach look brilliant. At any rate, Yeds biggest problem has been figuring out how to defend give and go situations at hte top of the box with his CB. He or the CB never seem comfortable with who tracks which runner and who defends which player.
Prem quality attackers make those 2 on 2 situations uncomfortable for all but the very best.Even then the cavalry better come back from midfield soon.
It was very painful to watch him get turned over and over again (last year), then for the CB to start screaming at him and Yeds screaming at his CB. I wonder if Benitez ever watched Malone and Stockton pick and roll for a decade? Every damn match, same pick and role and there goes Yedders, biting on every fake and his CB running the wrong direction.
That was a different era of American sports. Guys like Sanders, Brian Jordan and Bo Jackson came up in a time when specialization wasn't really a thing.
They were in high school and college in the 80's. A three were in pro leagues in the 80's When Bo Jackson was in high school, he was on the track and field team. His freshman year the coach saw how good of an athlete he was and told him he was going to compete in the decathlon. He complained to the coach that he didn't want to run the mile run, which is the last event. The coach told him he accumulated enough points to win without running th mile he wouldn't have to run it. Bo Jackson became a 4 time state champion in the decathlon without ever having to run the mile.
pretty sure wrench was responding about Almiron and not Yedlin. Yedlin is definitely an EPL player. Almiron maybe not....
Almiron has been very disappointing this year.... kid is pressing for sure and can actually hinder the offense at times. Yedlin has looked pretty good coming back. I am optimistic.
The grief that yedlin gets on BS is amazing. He’s not a pretty player on the pitch and relies on his elite speed but for FFS, he’s been a starter on a midrange EPL team for three years running and has consistently shown that he can hang at this level. Is he a shut down guy like Neon Deon or a silky offensive player? Nope but he contributes well enough for a top 100 team. That’s pretty fricking good for a YA and we’d be lucky if youngsters like Cannon do better.
