Sorry I missed this earlier. To begin his campaign he was one of those candidates who was pushing saying what you believe in even if it was idealistic and not immediately practical. He said, "It's time to stop worrying about what Republicans will say. It's true that if we embrace a far-left agenda, they're going to say we're a bunch of crazy socialists. If we embrace a conservative agenda, you know what they're gonna do? Say we're a bunch of crazy socialists. Let's just stand up for the right policy, go out there, and defend it." He has taken a decidely hard turn into the "moderate" lane and is now pushing back against those who are more on the left. I don't know that he has changed much on policies, but his campaigning method has completely changed.
Tulsi has now pivoted to full 'killary' for the 2016 election The Dana Loesch of the Democratic party https://t.co/pI3VHjHYav— David Frum (@davidfrum) October 23, 2019

I always thought that the Ukraine scandal may be beneficial to Joe. Those numbers seem to confirm that. Joe Biden's lead in the race for the Democratic nomination for president has rebounded, and now stands at its widest margin since April, according to a new CNN poll https://t.co/fnSYSpksqW pic.twitter.com/we1wIKxQUd— CNN Politics (@CNNPolitics) October 23, 2019
The method of largely saying nothing and the rest of the candidates not taking the bait is working. It can be tough to speak on something close to you, but I thought he would be better putting it down. After hearing him during the entire campaign, he's best served all-around by not speaking... on anything.
https://talkingpointsmemo.com/news/dick-sporting-goods-ed-stack-third-party-run-2020-elections The CEO of Dick's is considering a run. He's been a longtime GOP donor. OTOH, Dick's just took a public stand on guns. He'd obviously be a spoiler. I can't say which way. I want to talk briefly about 1992. The Establishment Narrative is that Perot swung the election to Clinton. Exit polls entirely debunk that. But those exit polls only asked Perot voters whom they would have voted for if Perot wasn't running. They didn't measure, couldn't measure, the effect of Perot's rhetoric, which was much more anti-Bush than anti-Clinton. If Ed Stack's stump speech is half "we need a 3rd option to bridge the partisan divide" and half "Trump is a mentally ill racist clown," he'll help the Democrats. If he positions himself as an option for suburbanites who swung in 2018, he'll help Trump. IMO.
Biden is speaking about 150 yards from where I am now. There are about 10-12 Trump cultists waving Trump 2020 flags. And a few have hand-printed signs saying "Quid Pro Quo." If I was the sort that yelled at morons, I would've said something like, "so, you admit it." But I doubt they would've understood.
Some Democrats still can't forgive crazy Tulsi for endorsing Sanders. I mean this part is what politicians do. As they say the only bad press is not press. https://www.politico.com/news/2019/10/23/tulsi-gabbard-hillary-clinton-dispute-054398
To be fair, unlike the current President, this guy is actually a successful businessman. Which doesn't mean he's qualified to be president, obviously. Still, I'm a fan of his stores.
Somebody need inform Tulsi and her fellow Republicans that Hillary Clinton not only is not currently the President of the United States, but she never was.
But citing Clinton is great if you want to run a cable news channel. Maybe they are thinking about the future.
She's going to keep disrupting things and gasp for as much air as she can. She's running as part of the Democratic primary and not to be a Democrat.
I live in a state that had a businessman running things. Know what we got? A city's water supply poisoned, garbage roads, business friendly taxes that shifted the burden towards the poor, emergency financial managers, right to work laws, opposition to Syrian refugees being relocated to Michigan*, and a lot of other things. Keep CEOs out of the government. Shame them the same way Schultz was when he considered running. It's obvious they're not used to being told off.** The sooner this 80s/90s CEO worship stops, the better. *: Made more messed up because of the fact that we have one of the largest Middle East populations outside of the Middle East. **: A few months ago, my department's VP held a rather insensitive meeting bragging about profits in a room with employees being laid off in a few months. The next day, a Q&A session was held and the guy looked like he was about to crack. He did not win any friends in that initial meeting.
This is a make or break moment for the United States of America. And yet, this president, with that shit-eating smirk on his face, smiles and laughs as he threatens everything we care about—including the idea that no one is above the law. pic.twitter.com/UrvsCcDU4y— Beto O'Rourke (@BetoORourke) October 23, 2019 I’m posting a tweet here to make a point. Beto had a little bounce when he said “what the ********.” So his brand now is the cussing candidate.
We had a "businessman" as governor until earlier this year. Actually, he wasn't really a businessman, although his campaign described him that way and his Wiki page says the same. He was a private-equity investor. But all the same, I suppose. We're supposed to think that he's better at getting things done and running the show than mere community organizers, or whomever. Yeah sure. And people believe that stuff? Actually, he wasn't terrible, just not good. Another Arnie. A Republican governor with a Democratic legislature, and without the political skills to make something from an admittedly difficult situation. Now we have another "businessman," sort of -- a guy born into money who runs the family operations. He'll probably work out better because he's a Democrat, and because he at least has some politically related experience working with the major's office and such, but man ... the appeal of these billionaires.
{Edit: As JohnR says}: Illinois had one, too. From the finance sector no less. {One further example of his work} My public university, which had 15,000 students when I was there, had an incoming class of 900. I've read that the University of Northern Iowa has that many students from Illinois.
