sorta on topic: do we know what the league Conference breakdown will be next year, when Miami and Nashville join?
No. If they stay with 2 conferences, my guess would be Chicago will move west and both teams will be added to east. The downside of this is the east would have a lot of new teams, but it would be evened out when Austin and Sacramento join the west in the next couple years. Who knows where St. Louis will be added. Another option maybe for Nashville to be added to west and Miami to be added to east.
Heard somewhere (probably here) that Nashville will spend one year in the West before moving to the East permanently. While not ideal and would seem silly it is better than moving a team like Chicago to the West for one year and then moving them back when Austin comes in (with the possibility of a city like Charlotte coming in at the same time to even out the conferences in 2021).
I've read the article, but I still don't understand how Sacramento to MLS has been century in the making.
It's a clear progression that has played out over 100 years. I will summarize: October 21, 1919 -- Sacramento was not in MLS. October 21, 2019 -- Sacramento is in MLS.
I believe I read the MLS ownership group has an agreement to buy the USL team and use the name and therefore most likely the crest.
Luckily I had just swallowed my drink before I read your post. For some reason this struck me as extremely funny. Thanks for the laugh.
They'll keep the team name and colors, but I think they'll change the crest. The current crest still looks a little 'minor league' and frankly kinda boring to me. It would be great for a state park logo or something similar though.
I wouldn't be surprised if the crest was changed. Cincy changed theirs and it was the same ownership group.
