Only thing in our favour is that we are better against teams that come on to us than against teams that bunker. Liverpool do have it in themselves to play a high-line against us which is pretty much our only spike. Problem is they have a midfield, where we dont. Plus they have attacking intent from their fullbacks, where we dont. Plus they have better players in all bar a couple of positions.
David de Gea, Sergio Romero, Lee Grant, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, Axel Tuanzebe, Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo, AY, Brandon Williams, James Garner, Scott McTominay, AP, Fred, Juan Mata, Tahith Chong, Angel Gomes, Daniel James, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Mason Greenwood. In a surprise twist, Dave somehow appears to have recovered enough to take part tomorrow. Shaw unfortunately still does not look ready however. Would still preferably go with the team submitted yesterday, with the exceptions of obviously Dave in for Romero (provided he's really good to go) and AY for Shaw at LB: he should have be well rested and thus hopefully able to put in a solid performance on the day. As previously stated, to have any chance tomorrow, Ole has to mix things up and go with some unexpected selections that could throw Pool off a bit. But more importantly, we need to have as athletic a team we can get, one that will work their butts off as well.
Imagine how even funnier it will be if Rashford happens to score the winner somehow, so you can be one that is being laughed at...
There are rumors that Ole might go with a 3 at the back setup. Wouldn't necessarily be against it: just depends which players are selected and how the setup would be up front (3-5-2 or 3-4-3). Personally would want to see the former with Rashford and Martial as the tandem in attack. The other big question for me is who the WBs would be: Wan-Bissaka has been named in the provisional squad so he should be him wide right. But who goes on the left? Could still be AY (would be a lot to ask from Williams in a massive game such as this one). But it's vital that we have a presence on both sides to disrupt Robertson and Alexander-Arnold in both directions. Slowing down even just one of them could affect Pool's attacking efficacy.
Either it’s 3 at the back which means we’re going to bunker or Young is play RW which is laughably bad. Either way, Ole is grasping at straws. And that midfield is going to get destroyed, not that we have better options.
Pool's lineup is the expected one, with the exception of Origi in for Salah Alisson, AA, Matip, van Dijk, Robertson, Fabinho, Wijnaldum, Henderson, Mane, Origi, Firmino
Ole insists things are improving on the injury front in our pre-match catch-up...@D_DeGea takes his place in goal ✔️@AWBissaka returns at right-back ✔️@AnthonyMartial is fit enough for the bench ✔️#MUFC #MUNLIV pic.twitter.com/5YIUyq840R— Manchester United (@ManUtd) October 20, 2019
Just another excuse for Ole to use if we get rolled over. Unbelievable though, the number of players who keep going down.
And here we go: hoping for the best yet... I feel that if we can prevent them scoring early, we might have an outside chance. A Pool goal within the first 15-20mins and it could get ugly.
Already twice now has Rojo just hoofed the ball forward to nobody. I swear he’s not an MLS level footballer. Pure garbage.
Twice we’ve played good balls into the box and neither time did Rashford make any sort of run. He’s a reactionary striker and not one that anticipates service.
Poor decision there from AP, especially with Wan-Bissaka making the effort to support him on the right. Effort wise though, even if the level as dropped a bit as expected, the players have been up for it so far. Question is, can they sustain this throughout the game (even intermittently)?
