Because of the way American journalists are reacting to their golden boy starting on the bench for a few games. If he were French or Spanish for example, then Lampard probably wouldn't hear a peep from their media about it.
Absolutely wrong. If Lampard wasn't playing a $73 million signing from Marseille, he'd face the same questions. Klopp got bombarded with questions about Fabinho last season. It's the price tag, not the nationality, driving the consternation.
They actually recently had an expensive signing from Marseille who struggled for playing time with less focus from the press. Michy Batshuayi
I assumed it is because GGG is a "hot topic" in US soccer circles and Lampard also knows he is horrible.
Full quotes as media can't be trusted anymore. Christian Pulisic made a big impact for Chelsea against Newcastle and Frank Lampard was delighted for him 💙🇺🇸 pic.twitter.com/Z1xj3eORTs— Chelsea FC News (@Chelsea_FL) October 19, 2019
Pulisic is rather ordinary at this level (top four league CL team) as a winger. He is an extraordinary player in the middle of the pitch facing the defense with a bit of space. RLC bothers me a bit, I don't know his game but the CFC fans think very highly of him. Pulisic can take a lot of Mounts minutes, but not sure about RLC. Long term I want to see Puli playing the central creator. I think that is where he will truly excel and I am beside myself that it appears a path may be opening up for him to do just that. One step a time and one minute at a time, but GG today, and high praise from the gaffer. (Does that mean he doesn't make the bench for the AJAX game?)
Maybe they could have broken his transfer fee into quarters, then he'd only be an 18 million/Q signing. That might have kept thing a little quieter... And the American's reporters could use fake Scottish accents.
Until I am ever proven wrong, I will continue to believe that this was a terrible decision. Style of play, location and club were all wrong for him. He is making the best of it but he was never going to be a savior there. He would have been better off at about 10 other EPL clubs. He may never realize it but Germany was always going to be a perfect setting for him. The open play and up and down play from most of their wingers would mean he would fit there well. Not many EPL teams besides City and Pool play with that aggressive reckless abandon and frankly he wouldnt play at those for a couple of years.
I tended to agree with you but I'm quickly starting to come around to the opposite point of view. It seems to me like his game is maturing at Chelsea...and that maybe Lamps knows what he is doing after all. You get the feeling they might be on the cusp of something special with this group of young guys. Time will tell.
The BSPCFV index (Big Soccer Pulisic/Chelsea Fan Volatility index) makes Bitcoin fluctuations look like a 5 year CD rate...
I am with you. I think by the end of the season, this team will be really exciting to watch. They have been stop leaking goals, which is a really good sign. Just wait until their young players gel together and read each other better.
Everybody expected United to struggle but the bad form of the Spuds has come as a bit of a surprise. Can't say I'm displeased. Chelski may make it to the Champions again yet. We'll see. It'd turn Lamps into a folk hero. Drunken songs shall be sung about him.
At this point, it's hard to imagine Chelsea not making top 4. ManU and Spuds are done for the season.
Just imagine what will happen when he scores his first goal!!! He will make MBappe look like a Sunday league sub.
At 10 other EPL clubs? The ones that wouldn’t pay him as much? The ones that aren’t in London? The ones that won’t make the Champions League? The ones worth much smaller global profiles? It’s GOOD to be on a team where you’re not the savior ... because that team has good teammates and needs not a savior. What are your goals for him? It seems that you have goals for him that don’t match what players actually want - you want maximized minutes and goals .... they like those things but want money, title opportunities, European competition, etc. And living in London is awesome.
that is about as fair and supportive and trusting that a manager can be with a young player. I also remind folks that Hershey is a long way from Dortmund and that is a long way from the most international city in the world - London. I think this could be an enormous positive in the long term for CP.
Pulisic never played as bad as the pundits and some on this board thought... He looks to have solidified his slot as a sub and will probably get starts in league cups. That isn't terrible for a young player learning a new system/league. Perhaps it won't be such a bad thing to not be expected to be the savior for a while... it has to be exhausting. That being said... the price tag for his was enormous... so while these productive minutes are nice he still needs to take it to the next level by the end of the year.

And yet he was the 2nd lowest rated Chelsea player yesterday. What did he do wrong? Thought he had a decent game and created a few solid chances.
The only rating that counts at this point is Lampard, and he seemed fairly positive... The rest is a big ball of bar "knowledge." Chelski entering their busy season. Hard to imagine CP not getting minutes. If he makes them count, he will get more.
