There was documented interest. Everything else is just speculation. Top managers are not strangers to crap environments.

Any actual document about it, beyond the tweet of some USSF journo?

570+ posts, and I haven't seen anybody mention that Tim Ream assisted (beautifully, I might add) on both of Canada's goals. He's largely criticized here (when he's actually brought up as a problem in this game) instead for his lack of foot speed. ??? UH, maybe if you don't pass the ball up the middle, directly to a wide open player on the opposite team, maybe you wouldn't need to worry as much about your foot speed and having to recover? Are we analyzing the actual game, here, people? Jesus. Bradley lost the ball, it went wide, a pass was made across the top of our box, a Canadian player totally botches his touch, and it rolls to Timmy Ream. What happened next is U-N-F-O-R-G-I-V-A-B-L-E at this level!! Bad on Bradley, sure, but Ream played that like a six year old. Unbelievable.

Oh, and I was done with Yedlin as a "defender" at least two years ago. Even on the excellent 'Total Soccer Show', with all of their otherwise insightful in-depth analysis, they didn't point out that Yedlin didn't just loaf once the ball arrived in our box on that first goal sequence... he loafed (as in walked) when the ball first turned over in midfield. I watched a replay of how that all unfolded, and I have NO idea what the hell he was thinking. Did he momentarily think he was playing midfield? Striker? At a practice? I mean, this isn't the first time I've seen him do this in a U.S. shirt. It isn't good enough, and he shouldn't be getting any more call-ups.

Yes, we looked bad in general in this game, and it's pretty clear that we have a major problem in Berhalter. But in soccer, all it takes is a couple of bonehead plays to ruin a game. Again, I'm talking about Tim Ream's two assists directly into the middle of the pitch, one with his feet and one with his (bone)head, directly to a red shirt, rather than putting the ball ANYWHERE ELSE!!!!!; and Yedlin's total lack of awareness and responsibility as a ****ing national team "DEFENDER". He still sucks when it comes to putting in crosses, too.

Journalists use tweets. It's 2019. Try harder.

NT players dev't should not be MLS responsibility anyway. In an extreme scenario MLS can run profitable, popular and watchable league with NO US players at all filling up all rosters with foreigners. From their business POV NT can serve as a source of extra income - playing NT friendlies and competitive games in MLS stadiums for example, showcasing foreign-born MLS stars etc. Successful NT can boost MLS earnings of course, but i think MLS is becoming less and less dependent on so-called US "stars" (not that we have any currently) and NT successful games/tourneys.

Wow! He really named names. He didn't hold back. I believe he meant that Boca, co-chair of the Athlete's Council, had engaged in some shady behavior during the election process.

I'm sorry but I don't trust US soccer journos. Far too many times they have given us lies.

When you say "documented," it must mean there is some factual, first-hand information about it.

If the US soccer journos are telling me that Lopetegui wants the USMNT job, but none of El Pais, AS, La Vanguardia or Marca carry the story, excuse me if I'm more than a bit skeptical.

The only media to carry the story in Spain was Sport.es, and as you can see from the name, it's a subsidiary of Sport International, a US-based corporation. And the story they carried was lifted from the MLS Soccer original one (based on a couple of tweets by Wahl).

On the other hand, when Berhalter went to Spain to attend a seminar by Lopetegui, that was reported by all the Spanish (as from Spain) media. Had there been any actual interest by Lopetegui to coach the USMNT, it'd have been mentioned at some point.

    It wasn't.

Just did a 3rd watch while doing laundry. Darke's comment in the closing moments of the game was "this is the worst performance I've ever seen from the USA". Darke has seen a game or two.

There was nothing shady about Boca's behavior. He openly sold his influence out under a bright and burning Chicago sun........;)

There are crap environments and then there are crap environments. The US job is desirable for plenty of reasons. The money gets paid on time. Desirable, safe place to live. The media is not overly harsh. The federation politics are no different here than anyplace else and probably more benign.

The manager who can take this team to the next level can write his own ticket. There is plenty of interest.

Strawman. We’re talking about the need to fire a manager that has a team played off the pitch by f***ing CANADA.

Whether you think Klinsi was an awful manager, a good one, or somewhere in the middle, we have not had this extended of a run of looking putrid since the Sampson days.

Fire this clown’s ass TOMORROW. Get a manager in that can at least get players to play to the level they show with their clubs, then we can determine how good we can be with this pool. My estimate is that our talent should be #2/#3 in the Hex for this cycle, with hopes we can catch/pass Mexico with our promising young talent by 2022.

    1. We were NOT played off the pitch. Both teams looked scrappy for most of the game.

    2. We've been in decadence for a long time. Even under Klinsmann we were all complaining about sticking to old players, we were one of the oldest teams in Copa.

    3. The manager could be better, but those who think just changing the pool we're going to be awesome like back in 2009 at deluded.

With a decent manager, we'll qualify out of the region behind Mexico and beat top teams in friendlies. That's the best we can aspire to right now.

“The frustration with the state of the United States Men’s soccer team is at a new peak in the Jurgen Klinsmann era. After a disastrous second half of 2015 which saw them suffer historic losses to Jamaica and Panama in the Gold Cup followed by an extra time loss to rival Mexico, the Federation was hoping 2016 was a new beginning. But following another tragedy against Guatemala in World Cup qualifying on Friday, the U.S. has now failed to win its last four competitive matches where the talent gap was not obscene (apologies to St. Vincent and the Grenadines)....”

ok, you made this argument just stupid enough that ill bite...

would lichaj (over lovitz), holmes (over roldan) and a still injured for all i care morales (over bradley or trapp) make a world of difference?

yes. they absolutely would make a world of difference.

hollingshead, lletget (sitting on the damn bench) and pomykal would make a pretty huge difference.

gloster, ledezma and mendez- none of who has played a minute of first team football- is a group you can at least argue about (and youd probably be wrong then, too).

i dont care about berhalter (a very solid at worst mls manager) losing his damn mind and becoming an atrocious intl manager. i dont care about "the system" or his "principles".

"the group"- his core that he has clung to and built around since january camp- is what i care about. his selections are professional malpractice- before you even get to tactics, philosophies, etc.

i started following us soccer in 1993. name a worse player in your lifetime as a usmnt fan than lovitz who has gotten regular playing time for the nats. name a worse player than corey baird to make a dozen rosters in a calendar year.

and you make the arguement those are the best options? that he has no better choice? youre out of your freaking mind.

going on this post alone youre clearly just shitting on our players overseas, but im not familiar enough with your opinions to say youre all the way in the bag for mls (which is why i included both domestic, abroad and youth players). if thats the case i shouldnt have even bothered.

but regardless how mls, abroad or simply merit based your preferences are that is an absolutely garbage take.

as for your big finish- condescending nonsense that it was- theres no one anywhere who complained about our losses last year, and all grandpa sarachan did was write down the first 11 teenagers' names he could think of on a chalkboard and remind the last one out the locker room door to grab the cooler of orange slices.

Our time with Berhalter has been worse than the end of the Jürgen era in my opinion. But congrats, you found a period that was roughly comparable, and it ended with the coach getting rightfully fired.

    Fire Berhalter now.

There are slightly better options that will produce a slight improvement.

I'm sick and tired of people here always moving the posts. We're going nowhere with blind fans who will stick to the "if only we had played X instead of Y we'd have won."

It's cowardly, it's escapist, it's a lie and it's unkind to our rivals.

For once we should have the balls to admit that we lost because the other team has players as good as ours, perhaps even better.

But no, we can never do that. It's always because "the stupid coach took the B team."

Next month we lose with all the guys people here are demanding now, and we'll move the posts again. No wonder the entire thing is going nowhere, the board is probably just as dumb as the fans.
