Gio Rossi never once misled the US as far as his intentions on international soccer. I have never understood why people had such a problem with it.
Yeah, much sadder would have been, "I can see I'm not good enough to play for my first choice, Italy, so I guess I'll play for you guys."
That's not sad, that's being realistic, both on your own status, but also of the nations teams as such. It would be sad if one is in denial about his own qualities and choses based on the status of a team in stead of based on your own chances to get in.
And, like Jermaine Jones, had he done so he would have been good enough to carry our team at times. So while I agree with the sentiment, I still would have been excited by him saying those words.
Well, we'll have to disagree there. Rossi wanted to play for Italy, period - that was his primary motivation.
with the usmnt in shambles it makes logical sense to look outside of the stagnant crappy player pool toward younger players that might be able to help now and will definitely be able to help in 2 years. added benefit of the pomykal, ledezma, richards, mendez, gloster, llanez crew is that they are probably the players in the pool closest to sergino dest due to their shared experience. integrating the next generation now is a double whammy of improving the current product, the future product, and doing everything you can to sway a full back who will be a 10 year starter to commit
I am all for making this a totally young lineup... and literally love every name you mentioned... But the U23 guys have not made the Olympics since 2008 and there may be value in them gaining valuable experience in that tourney... but once fall of 2020 rolls around I want see these guys on the squad and by the same token... I want the vast majority of this group: Lovitz, Roldon, Arriola, Bradley, Trapp and Zardes.... off the pitch.
A former back talks about the changes that took place. https://www.skysports.com/football/...neville-how-full-backs-have-evolved-over-time
I think that because of style difference between the U23 players and the older ones they might actually be better as a team right now even though the older players might be better right now until the younger guys mature. Right now they don't play as a team most of the time. Question would be would they still play as a team with Berhalter as a coach or would he scheme it out of them?
Sportredactie 19-10-19, 21:39 Complaining ten Hag: "I saw 11 unattached companies on the pitch" Erik ten Hag didnot want to give one positive word about the first half of Ajax of the won away match against RKC Waalwijk (2-1). "It was pure shit"he said at Fox Sports.
The Dutch offered him respect and a fair chance to make an important team. We offered him a stenchy whiff of General Egg and the chance to have no important role in making our team something worthy of respect. Yeah, it sure was a very hard choice for Dest.
You're all acting as if he has made his choice. From the States he has a almost certain spot for a long time. From the Orange team he only had a conversation. In ones choices the coach shouldnot be an issue. Those are wanderers passing by. Players for national teams having that career while serving under one coach is a rarity. So to make your choice dependent from that is dumb.
Agree it shouldn't be, but in the US we tend to let our wanderers stick around a little too long. There is a limited window when you are a prime age player. Not sure how much risk you want to take. Also, in terms of the "next manager," the US has demonstrated less continuity in style of play from one manager to the next. The Dutch tend to be more consistent. And for an outside back, that is an important consideration. I can't believe I'm making these arguments.

Not now there isn't. We had our chance, and we let General Egg take it and put it where the sun don't shine. He's persuasive that way.
