GB is incapable of motivating players, I’m convinced of it now. That, and as usual, no Plan B (though seriously, was there even a Plan A in this game?).
S Bum—you have to remember that Timon doesn’t believe that boycotts can be effective. You’d be merely making a STATEMENT.
I’m not sure Bayern was the best choice for Davies, but it was certainly better than Pulisic’s to go to Chelsea, for sure.
Yeah, he is. I've said here multiple times I'd rather have had Berhalter one more year than Porter for 5, or even two.
A good coach will adjust to the players he has. We did better in the 90s and early 0s on athleticism, fitness, and grit. Then we decided we were going to play like we were Barca and look where we are now.
I would be less of an ass if soccer in the US didn't have guys named Precourt, Garber or Roldan in important places.
A boycott of something you were only marginally likely to unlikely to partake in really doesn't qualify as one.
Because you know me, my life and my personal wealth and ability to do the things I want to do? Or because you believe that we, as individuals, should not stick to our moral values and ethical principles, in the face of human slavery and corruption, if it does not affect immediate change in the world? I agree, Qatar doesn’t need my money. They really don’t need anyone’s money. But I’m really having a hard time understanding your butthurt reaction to an innocuous three line post.
Many people talk much bigly about boycotts when in reality, they are simply expressing disapproval in a mostly-vacuum. If that doesn't apply to you, then consider this a retraction.
I don't follow usmnt stuff as closely as I used to, but was there really a wave of support in here for Berhalter being a deserving choice for head coach? I could an argument for he being a candidate, but as I recall, the Fed was universally lambasted for the absolute lack of effort it showed in reviewing a competitive candidate pool. Toss in Jay B's role, and the whole thing stinks to high heaven. I had modest expectations for Gregg, thought he might muddle along as head coach. He's surely done worse than I expected, but I didn't expect much. Hard to imagine anyone would have.
I do t know about support in the hire but I was willing to give him a fair chance once he was hired. I wasn’t able to watch last night, should I just delete the recording?
Yeah. October 2017,crash outta WC 2018. Then the Austin nonsense. Pretty low-point in soccer fandom at that time. USMNT interest hasnt really recovered.
Indeed. My love for US Soccer is at a nadir. The Crew are a vast oasis in a sea of suck. I laughed this morning seeing Beckham's stadium efforts in Miamuh appear to be road-blocked. Had J Anthony Patsy won, I'd have no problem leaving this all behind. Praise be to the profit center for US Soccer, the Mexican Men's National Team.
Fair enough, and I suppose I would have agreed with that opinion. Largely because, I mean, what other choice to fans have? But results have been so miserable that his "fair chance" seems to have run its course. It's funny that we refer to Porter as CoachBot, when Berhalter is a far more rigid, Mr. Data kind of manager. I don't think he's a bad coach, just remarkably plodding in his approach to his role. I give him credit for righting the ship when he came to Columbus, getting us back in the playoffs right away, the run to the 2015 MLS Cup. But I also feel he really was only in consideration for the USMNT job because of Zach Steffen's development as a keeper. The whole myth of Gregg Berhalter, highly successful MLS coach, would fallen apart without Steffen's performances in 2017 and 2018. None of those memorable playoff performances would have happened without that one player. We'd have lost of Atlanta in the first, knockout match in 2017, and we wouldn't even have made the playoffs in 2018, without Steffen. Take away that playoff success, and would Berhalter even been considered for the job? And now we have his bother as the only candidate seemingly in consideration for the CEO role... I mean, WTF? The men's senior program seems hellbent to destroy itself.
I would rather watch a recording of last night's Democratic debate from a dentist's chair than watch the game again.
