This is very true. However, what they'll be doing as they stay in LA, playing in the playoffs or watching them on TV, has yet to be determined.
MLS Cup Final showcase on a tiny pitch, in a baseball stadium, in front of thousands of empty seats ... the idea must be giving DG nightmares.
MLS Cup in NYC, regardless of stadium (assuming it's YS or Citi), would be the dream scenario imo. So many corporate types they can entertain and YS was designed almost exclusively for important people, would be perfect. Would also be very amusing to read Bigsoccer that week.
Not much different than the Super Bowl, nor every other week of MLS. Business tends to over rule the purity of the sport more often than not. Edit: and just to clarify my last post. MLS Cup in NYC would be a dream for league HQ, not a nightmare like the post I quoted was alluding to. Granted, I think they prefer the SSS in LA over a baseball stadium, but it wouldn't surprise me if YS was the league's second choice.
I'm afraid most of those corporate types wouldn't get a great view. And I still foresee a lot of empty seats.
I told as many people as possible that my graduating class was the first of the millennium in 2001, not 2000. Blank stares. I tried using running in track as an example, as in, there is no lap 0, it starts on lap 1.
If NYCFC hosts the final on Nov 10, where will they play? Apparently Citi field is also booked that day for stadium golf, whatever that is.
Um... why are we talking about this again? Didn't they say that there is a contingency plan in place that will have MLS Cup played at Yankee Stadium?
I'd say the league might want Atlanta to host again, as unlikely as that is this year. I doubt they'd mind Yankee Stadium though. A final in a SSS just seems small now.
Oct. 1: New York City FC have announced their postseason plan, equipped with detailed information should NYCFC's Audi 2019 MLS Cup Playoff matches conflict with the New York Yankees' postseason games. The two teams share Yankee Stadium and both are competing in their respective playoffs. Should the Yankees reach the American League Championship Series and play six or seven games, NYCFC will play their first playoff game at Citi Field, home of the New York Mets. Should the Yankees reach the World Series and NYCFC the Eastern Conference Championship, NYCFC will play that match at Citi Field as well. There's a lot of support for the Astros on the NYCFC fan Facebook page.
The stadium links event got pushed out of Citi Field last time we played the Crew due to a Yankee conflict. However the college football game will be moved out of Yankee Stadium if it comes to it.
The funny thing is is that 10 years from now we most likely will still be talking about the same NYCFC stadium situation.
Nope. You'll be talking about why the Revs are sharing the new Patriots stadium while NYCFC got the league's best stadium right on a subway line. You'll hear the details by the end of this year, and probably five or so years of construction and permitting.
October 23. Save the date. I mean more than likely it's all interwebz bull shit, but allegedly some sort of stadium announcement is in the works and it supposedly has a little more steam than the usual announcement to be made in 60-90 days. We shall see. We shall see.
What? The whole reason for changing from a predetermined neutral site to the team with the best record was to make everything MORE about the football. MPE. what is your solution? I mean since they’re a bunch of amateurs and you’re Wile E. Coyote, Supergenius, what should they do instead?
Yes. Because it is my job to come up with a plan to play a major playoff game on a weeknight at an alternate venue. I’m more the Brain in this scenario:
What's worse: playing at a similarly expensive stadium 10 miles away without impacting the schedule, or playing a home playoff game on turf on like 24 hours rest?
