For whatever reason, the broadcast got canned. From the Slavia Twitter feed, a picture of the two teams lining up before the match seems to show Reyna on the field....Looking at Dortmund account, it shows him in the starting lineup. Go Slavia!!! Oops. Sorry.

0-0 at halftime. According to Slavia's Twitter feed, they were more "active" and had the better chances. Take that for what you want....Local sports site says Slavia "slight edge" with chances. Says game is quick and "attractive."

First mention of Reyna. Apparently got free in the 53rd minute and was stopped only by a Slavia defender, who picked up a yellow on the play.

And Slavia hold on for the win, 1-0. Reyna played the whole match. Got one mention in the Czech sports website online report.

I think this guy is just a BVB youth superfan, but interesting thoughts:

Gio Reyna: stands out clearly and is for me the top talent in the youth field. Incredible dynamic player with strong ball technique, no longer plays like a youth player. Professional debut this season definitely possible.

Sorry. But would it have been a kiss of death if it happened in a forest and nobody saw it?

    https://www.90min.com/posts/6474451...tracking-borussia-dortmund-teenager-gio-reyna

90min has learned that the decision-makers at Manchester City are furious at the decision to let Reyna leave their sister academy system in New York, with club scouts now watching him in action for Borussia Dortmund's youth teams.

Reyna was part of Dortmund's senior pre-season squad but so far hasn't made any first-team appearances under Lucien Favre, although he could still rival Nuri Şahin as their youngest ever debutant before his birthday next month.

While Reyna hasn't been included in any of Dortmund's first-team squads this season, he's set for a call-up by Favre sooner rather than later thanks to his performances at Under-19 level.

Family comes first. You know Pep wouldn't use him so why not send him to one of the best academies in Europe? I would bet the Foden family wishes Phil came thru the BVB academy instead.

They're frustrated with the decision to let him depart instead of spinning his wheels for a few years in their loan army and then rotting on the bench.

City are confirming their sister clubs like NYCFC exist for the primary purpose to be their feeders. I guess I'm fine w/ it when it comes to Leipzig because they have a system that allows prospects to rise up the ladder, but City are the polar opposite.

Sucks that so many would be NYRB prospects are ending up in the NYCFC catchment area. That rule change to allow clubs to recruit all over the states can't come soon enough.

I doubt it. It’s their fault for not showing a greater interest or getting involved before this move even materialized. Now that’s he showing that he’s a high-level talent in Europe, now all of a sudden they’re monitoring him. He was in their farm-clubs academy, should’ve taken advantage then.

Please cite the rule. Never heard of such a thing and seriously doubt it exists.

    From Tenorio in October 2018.
    https://theathletic.com/611368/2018...lowing-teams-to-scout-in-each-others-regions/

"Major League Soccer is considering eliminating homegrown academy territories, according to multiple team technical directors, a move some believe could significantly improve the country’s domestic player pool. The technical directors cautioned there is still plenty left to decide regarding how such a change would occur—most believe there would still be some sort of protections in place for MLS teams within their markets—but they are confident that the change will occur in the near future.

“It will happen,” one technical director said.

Under current rules, MLS teams are prohibited from looking for youth players in territories that belong to other MLS teams. The change would likely not be introduced until at least the latter half of 2019, when the 2019-20 development academy season begins, or perhaps not until the start of the 2020 MLS season."

Might make sense for it to be announced with the new CBA.

It's going to happen. Throwing St Louis and Austin into the mix would seriously cut into some of our better youth producing teams "homegrown" territory. So instead of having our youth being forced to choose to only go to one club (Josh Sargent for example, could only have gone through Sporting Kansas City), they can pick the best option for them. Indeed Kansas City has been very aggressive about getting kids outside of their territory (Busio, Erik Palmer-Brown, Jaylin Lindsey).

Ultimately, that type of competition is what you want because it further increases the incentive for teams to develop better youth academies because then they aren't chained to their territory.

He should. Claudio did what was best for his family, but that doesn’t excuse him for not performing his duties as sporting director and not collecting a transfer fee.
Greater interest? Forget Man City. Every NYCFC fan wanted him signed for NYC, even if it was only short-term for the transfer money.

As for people worried about NYC’s academy keeping players off of Red Bull, they obviously aren’t paying attention to kids coming through NYC. The academy started with u14, so only in the last couple of years have any of the kids gotten close to signing age. And the ones who look likely to play have been signed by the club. Except Reyna, whose dad looked the other way so he had absolute freedom. My prediction that will be sad to @duke of soccer is NYC will go take kids from a lot of other clubs. And good. They have a great coach and setup and they won’t force players to stagnate in MLS.

Maybe once they get a USL franchise they'll be good at that, but right now a player would have to be silly to go there. Guys like Tayvon Gray, Jasson, and Scally could surely use time playing against professionals but they're just not getting it. Going to an SKC or Seattle makes a lot more sense for development.
