Eintracht are tired.. should be interesting to see a rested bremen that almost beat Dortmund play what is a pretty good Eintracht team. Looking forward to it and I think that Bremen at least gets a point today. Eintracht are struggling of late.
Just made a nice run behind the Eintract back line, his shot with his off foot (a bit of a tough angle, but possible) is kick saved but the ensuing rebound is put in 1-0 Bremen
Was really good movement heading outside than in on a counter attack. Sent one defender complete wrong way with his movement.
Pleased how Sargent played, even w/out a stat. Run and shot helped create lone goal and was precise in hold-up. Won more 50/50's than opposition and distributed coolly to teammates to maintain possession. Starved of much service. Bremen pinned back and teammates over-dribbled when pass was there. Field was sloppy and Frankfurt had a hometown ref. Deserves mention he pressed well and checked back to help on defense + get some clearances. 7.5/10 performance to me. Not a legit sub by the manager. He was one of the best on his team and still active at the time of his departure.
Did well when on the ball for the most part. Don’t think he’s very good or comfortable as a winger. He wasn’t on the ball as much as I would have liked.
Whoscored is better, even though all metrics have flaws. More reliability than the human eye, less potential validity because they don't take many factors out of the player's control into account. They gave him a 6.62, which is at least better than one Bremen player and 4 from Frankfurt. In his case, it didn't help that he came off early. They reward you for more positive involvements and don't discredit you as much for negative ones unless they're major or voluminous. Werder's deeper lying players got more action in this match. Also, the field sloppiness and reffing made for a highish luck/unlucky factor. Werder draws level late w/out Sargent on the field because a keeper doesn't get across well on the muddy pitch allowing a rebound which the defender should get to easily but he can't change directions so fouls in the box. The ratings of those involved go up/down. Sargent deserves to be viewed as an asset to put Werder in position to secure a draw on the road against one of the better teams in the league. Should retain starting spot.
That is flat out ridiculous. His touches on transition are pretty darn good. His run setup the 1st goal... he gets back and fights on D. Hard to be great when you are starved for good service. That being said.... he should have scored on that great run he made. It just seems like US players can't hit the back of the net to save their lives. He only has one more game before he likely goes back on the bench. Was hoping for at least another goal if not two.
Crazy that he was played as a winger when skinny, slow, and non skilled Bittencourt played as a false 9. Sargent played solid as a CF away at Dortmund last week, in a game they conceded possession. Same tactics, theoretically away at Frankfurt today. Kohfeldt does some puzzling stuff.
Davy Klassen highest at 8.3, team average 6.9. As noted above, hard to put too much stock in these things...doesn't factor in defensive pressure, offensive runs to make space, positioning to affect plays, etc, etc. I think a lot of Sargent's game is predicated on those things, hence is reflected poorly (at times) in such barometers.
Their first goal came because they actually passed him the ball as he devised one of those off the shoulder moves to get behind the cb's. It was there more than once during the game but he didn't get the ball. My feeling is that Radish is eager for that "high scorer for Bremen" title. He would score more if he gave the ball more to Sargent because Sargent has always been very much a give and go type forward. Lucky for Sargent they have an excellent midfield. Sarge is improving every game, imo. This is really his rookie season as a starter because he was pretty much ballast for the bench last year. Notice the use of that nautical term there in honor of seaport Bremen, once the home port of the largest merchant fleet in the world "DDG Hansa". from wiki in 1914, the line had 66 steamships and one motor-powered ship, and with a total Gross Register Tonnage of 437,789, was the world's largest freight shipping company and the third largest shipping company in Germany.[2] World Wars[edit] In World War I the company lost 81 vessels, a total of 437,489 GRT,[3] all but one ship,[1] the Soneck, with which service to Spain resumed in August 1919 Now that's what you call relegation.
Thomas Dooley, with 20 goals. Ibisevic would be the #1 (born in Bosnia, grew up in Missouri), with 123 goals, but he chose Bosnia. After Dooley (who was born in Germany) we have Fabian Johnson (also born in Germany) with 18 and after that Pulisic with 13. After that, Wood (10), Bradley (10) and Wynalda (9).
It is not a very high bar... A world class striker approaches or passes 20 goals in a season.... Kind of a sad remark on US players in that league if you ask me.
Our guys seem to do better in the lower divisions. There was some player who seemed to score a lot in the 3 Bundesliga. I wanna say Matt Taylor or maybe Matthew.
Ryan Coiner knocked in double digit goals (each year) for Union Berlin and Holstein Keil, but he didn't stick in Germany after those two years. Mark Heider scored a lot in BL3, playing for Werder's second team. Matt Taylor was at Preußen Münster and showed up on the Goal Scorer's list for a while, but not at Mark's level of production. We used to track goals and clean sheets here on YA (I did a lot of that work and then others took over for a few years before it died out). It's a pretty good resource stretching back to Run DMB at PSV and McHead at Fulham. Search "Yanks Abroad Goal Scorers List" in thread titles and you will find all those old threads.
Thanks for posting!!! It does make me curious at how much a consistent goalscorer could earn at a 2/3 Bundesliga squad back in the 00s. I recall that Joe-Max Moore spent a few years in the 2 Bundesliga and was a regular scorer.
Something happened where we forgot about this kid whose starting and just scored a goal in the 7th minute!
I posted it in the gameday thread.. sadly I cant find a video of it. Flashscores usually has it posted seconds after a goal however they have had software issues of late so its not up
It was a deflection (no risk of own goal but handcuffed gk) after nice one touch pass by Josh and return pull-back cross to him about 15-16 yards out. Footybite has numerous working streams.
The goal: Josh Sargent scored his second goal of the season as Werder Bremen took a 1-0 lead into halftime against Hertha Berlin 🇺🇸⚽️ pic.twitter.com/LsDPTZkoah— FOX Soccer (@FOXSoccer) October 19, 2019
