the deal is this. with the brain trust you detail, short term, it's their team and they will favor mount that they brought in on purpose. part and parcel to that is pigeonholing pulisic such that he is stuck at one spot.*** i think a lot of the rah rah bs i am reading about that is inane. short of scoring hat tricks off the bench it won't change. short of mount being hurt then pulisic is second choice. period.

but longer term, it will be a question of how cfc does and whether lampard stays employed. the choice will be honored if they finish well in their competitions. if, as now, they finish out of the top 4 in league, and in 3rd in CL group, dumped out to europa, lampard and his preferences won't last the season. period.

i think there are decent odds this happens. all he did with derby and mount was 6th and eliminated in the playoffs. i understand the sentimental appeal but unless his form changes the results are meh, particularly for a team that spends like CFC.

so the real question is do you force a loan or sale, or wait him out even if it means a chunk of a year of splinters. cause the next coach in will probably see him as more swiss army knife -- like everyone at dortmund did -- and get him on the field somehow.

***the US, though it moves pulisic around, has similar oddness in the way many players like jozy and zardes get treated. we have wide forwards who could play middle. we have 9s who could play wide and might even be better there. among other things i think sargent has some touch where he could play wide too. i'd like to see holmes and some others tried as 6s. i'd like to see robinson and yedlin tried wide further upfield where they can't hurt us so bad on defense.

part of the issue here is saying you only play one spot and then finding someone you prefer. a reasonable coach or one who liked CP would find him on the field some other way.

According to Live Soccer TV, it should be on Fox Sports 1 and on UniMás.

    https://www.livesoccertv.com/match/3462888/usa-vs-cuba/

PS: Live Soccer TV is a good resource, but at times inaccurate --they get their information a couple of days before a game, if the TV network decides not to show it or show a different game after that, they won't have a way to know it.

Who, in MLS, besides NYRB, has ever sold an American U23 player that was under contract? Even European teams don't generally sign players with 5 years left on their deal.

21 is young for a striker. Did you ever see what Altidore was doing at 21? He had just finished two years of not playing at all and then was on loan at Hull. Played part time, scored one whole goal, and got red carded in the final game that sealed Hull's relegation. The next year he went to Turkey and barely played. Then at 23ish, he broke out at AZ, not a club much better than VVV.

Wright has not taken off and might never take off. But he is still young. Also puts perspective on what Sargent is actually doing.

    -----------Sargent------------
    Pulisic-----------------Morris
    -------Lletget-Mckennie-----
    ------------Bradley------------
    Ream-Miazga-Long-Yedlin
    ------------Steffen-------------

Is what I want to see for these games.

Somethings I'm looking for - see how Yedlin preforms compared to Lima/Cannon. See how Lletget and Mckennie perform in midfield together.

Hopefully Pulisic plays with a fire under his ass and absolutely dominates in both games. Oh, and also have Steffen not make any glaring possession based errors. If he does in either of these games, we should either look for another starting keeper or the way we try to play out of the back so much needs to be adjusted.

Interesting that Sling has reinstated FS1 due to people missing their football...not futbol. Unimas is still not available. Could it be that soccer fans are not worth as much as football fans? In any case pre-game at 3:30 PT and game starts at 4:00 PT.

Wonder which of Trapp/Bradley will start. Hopefully, Sargent gets a full compliment of first string players. Otherwise, he will not show as well.

He never was on the first team. He barely had a cup of coffee with them.

Delgado, Roldan, Morris, Long, Hedges, Zimmerman, Nagbe, etc, etc.

Where is the player that signed a first team contract that has been sold by MLS in the past 6 years? Who has sold an American U23 player that was playing for their first team in the past 6 years except NYRB?

MLS uses the club only options at the end of HG contracts to pressure the kids into extensions. They never sell these players.

Yeah, I just want to see Sargent with the first string. It really doesn't do much for me to see a Uruguay lineup.

CP or similar ambitious player going someplace elite and then sitting is an inherent risk of that career strategy. the snob pro-rel bunch just see this as a test of you vs the invisible hand. what they leave out is objectively in x% of situations you end up sitting. i don't even know how it's surprising after dortmund. if you xerox the level you xerox the downside risk.

i don't get "i need out of dortmund" only to recreate your problems a few hundred miles over. there is some greed or ego thing that prevents us from dropping down for a period of consolidation to set up a power move right back up.

even if he just dropped down to midtable he goes from spot player to team star, and we replace this whole silly discussion of how do you get a basically unwanted player back playing, with some other elite team snapping him up, more purposefully, because he lit up the EPL from a friendlier perch.

or he waits out lampard and maybe the dice land different on the next coach.

I agree that Pomykal is not leaving on the first year of his new contract. He needs to show at least one solid, injury free season to go to a great/very good European situation.

However, the whole point of the HGP initiative is for the above situation to happen. Clubs now get 100% of an HGP transfer and have plenty of motivation to sell.

what he needs is service and we'll see if he gets that. the problem in recent games is he's been thrown out there with B teamers who shouldn't be playing wing and couldn't get him the ball. this is not zardes where you can just whack a ball to space and have him win a footrace.

i also think that against a team that bunkers back, where he wasn't being expected to run a ton in an open game, he could be interesting out wide. his first goal he wins that ball heading wide and comes back in and scores. i think he could probably hit a cross.

But Pomykal is no longer an HGP!

Let's say they could have sold for $6MM this Summer. They will need to get $8MM going forward to break even. Really, $8.5 next Summer to make up the salary too. Plus, MLS league HQ has to agree to the deal. History suggests they are not easy to negotiate with and tend to ask too much.

Hunt has said he wants to keep all his HGs and win the Cup. Looks like he is doing it. I don't understand why anyone thinks the tiger has changed its stripes.

MLS is built on maximizing ancillary income streams. Now that transfer sums regularly reach the high 8 figures there is no way that MLS will not figure out how to latch on to that wagon train.

not really. my sense the times i hooked up truly bottom of the barrel for adult league it was nothing but frustration because you start getting stuck bunkered back, or playing offsides trap too much, or odd man rushes, or various other things where you're taking too many dumb risks and not getting the competence around you that you're used to feeding off of. that trains you to play hard, not play smart.

my experience the best thing for learning to play defense is a good unit where things go like they are supposed to. you then learn to play your role with a mix of heroism and restraint, play your angles and such right, to take smart risks. then maybe you can play someplace crappier and you are drilled to execute your part right at least.

but a player who needs to learn his trade better, being thrown to the wolves, probably learns to take too many dumb risks.

the best part for miazga would be he's seeing the field regularly, the problem being as a serial loan player is it ever two years in the same place. there's almost a pattern of happy unhappy happy unhappy. my concerns would be CFC will reel him back in, and if Reading doesn't stay up then he won't be going back even if they like him.

He's still an HGP. He just counts in the salary cap because he is now in a senior slot. He will remain an HGP until he is transferred.
