I can follow up on a post on the Detective Work thread by confirming that Amadou, an '02 currently in the youth program of AVV Zeeburgia, which I understand has historically been a Dutch feeder club to bigger organizations, was born in Boston. He's apparently a right back who can play a bit of CB as well. He has spent some time with Malian YNTs and I believe was part of their failed attempt to qualify for the FIFA U17s -- though I don't believe he actually played for them in that competition, so he isn't provisionally cap-tied. He also has an older brother, Demba, who is at Zeeburgia but is not American. Here's a feature on the pair, in Dutch: https://www.nrc.nl/nieuws/2018/06/0...i-a1605157?utm_source=NRC&utm_medium=whatsapp And: Here for the record is the old Detective Work post in which I (wrongly) assumed based on the article linked above that he wasn't American-born. So that's what you get for listening to me! https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/th...ive-work-thread.1987805/page-31#post-37552414
'02 US-born FB Amadou van Leeuwen has joined the U19s of FC Emmen, whose first team finished 14th in the Eredivisie. He was previously with the U17s of AVV Zeeburgia, a low-level Dutch side.https://t.co/qPNiqDgYhN— ChuckMe92 Soccer (@ChuckMe92Soccer) July 30, 2019
Here's a video of Amadou scoring a nice goal from distance for Emmen's U19s against Fortuna Sittard last month. https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=2403060096450928
As noted, his brother Demba is not American, but might as well note that he was recently called up by Mali from FC Dordrecht. Clearly, the FA is still in contact with the family. http://www.fcdordrecht-jeugdopleiding.nl/2019/10/demba-van-leeuwen-geselecteerd-voor-mali/
Facebook announcement from the club: https://www.facebook.com/AkrotiriFC/photos/a.364625260959647/845878752834293
His club indicates that he made Mali's roster for African U20 qualification. He isn't cap-tied yet but may soon be. https://www.facebook.com/AkrotiriFC/photos/a.364625260959647/885236365565198
He's apparently returned to the Netherlands via the second team of Willem II, the first team of which is in the country's top division. https://www.tilbo.com/van-leeuwen-voegt-zich-bij-selectie-onder-21/
It looks like he returned to Emmen, with the second team. https://www.tilbo.com/van-leeuwen-naar-emmen-o21/
Looks like he's now with Kozakken Boys. https://www.kozakkenboys.nl/profiel/2293/amadou-van-leeuwen/?tab=2
