hes been involved. had a good run earlier... then had a bad give away but Man u wants very badly to use that left side to get the ball up and Yedlin has done well on that right side holding it down
LOL how you feeling about my statement now? Dont have to score many against Man U.. just gotta score one
And looked quite good doing... especially after taking an early yellow. His pace is legit and I like his vision on the pass. Was also impressed with his ability to bring down that long forward pass. He is 26... so I am hoping he is coming into his prime. He was exhausted at the end of this one.
Could not see this game Excellent for DY He said he had played in pain for two years Now getting a sub last game and a full 90 today Excellent news for him and for USMNT Just happy his pace is still there and he is without pain
Thought he played really well. He had a few wayward passes forward, a couple "hit and hope" one touches when he probably had time to take a touch and look around. But his positioning and tactical awareness has really improved. He was consistently in good position, in good space, covering and pressuring the right guy. He offered an outlet up the sideline and did the easy things well and a couple difficult things also well. Noticed his team usually gave him help and the mid typically covered the overlap. He played kind of how I'd envision the GGG right back. Flared out wide on D, though not always the widest, and found himself in the middle of the field quite a bit in transition. Often made a run up the field regardless of what channel he found himself in. His teammates looked for him and combined well. It's easy to not remember, given his layoff, how good of a competitor he is. Seems like he used his time well to further has understanding of the game. Won a key header when he shouldn't have, sparked a few plays, snuffed out a bunch more. Filled the stat sheet as they say. He found himself one-on-one vs James, Rashford, and Young and stood them up well. I was surprised Rash didn't take him to the cleaners-- Yedlin still looks at times over eager to bite on defense and feels susceptible to faints and stepovers-- but for whatever reason they/he didn't. If I were up against that right side, I'd want to find out why the opposition was giving the back help but Man U never asked those questions. That said, this Man U team as noted looked poor. Few attacking ideas or threat. They were asking to be picked off by a worthy opponent and OGS looked absolutely a husk of a man on the sideline. Get the sense he won't regret nor fear the axe, which must be falling right about now. The dysfunction being what it is though, means Man U probably has no one else suitable. What a time to be alive. TLDR: super display from Yedlin, gave 100%. Will have something to say for the Nats still.
In postgame comments, Steve Bruce mentioned DY as one of three players whose performance he was particularly pleased. Bodes well for DY continuing to get starts. That said, Bruce will likely need to find a place on the field for Matt Ritchie when he returns from injury. Right wing back is one possibility.
He needs to do his best to become among the top guys for this club. They're too cheap to buy a worthy replacement so he needs to ensure they stop looking.
Ritchie is a left-footed player who swings in crosses at Newcastle. No way in hell he's playing right back. And no one is expecting him to. Frankly, I’ll be surprised if he makes it back before January given Choudry’s shite. https://talksport.com/football/6007...matt-ritchie-injury-transfer-plans-liverpool/
Ritchie did play for many games last season as right sided midfielder, in front of Yedlin. No idea whether he can play right back.
For a lot of these right midfielder appearances, Ritchie actually played pretty deep since Yedlin tend to tuck in (when they officially played a back 4). I understand that this is different from actually playing right back, with no other tucked in back to back you up.
I thought I recalled Ritchie and Yedlin playing as wingbacks in quite a few appearances last season. Of course Ritchie was on the left then but they were kind of a big part of the attack (insomuch as Newcastle attacked anyway).
So if you get beat you're officially tucked... I think Ritchie played a left-side bookend to DY more than once, no?
