"Conflicting reports surface regarding Matias Almeyda's future" (MLSsoccer.com - Tuesday, 10/8/19) (USA Today Images) GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
Wow. This is the official MLS website again. They have access to the same Quakes players the rumor-mill sites do. Either they're too lazy to make an actual inquiry (yes, probably most likely) or the league is doing everything in its power to f*ck with the psyches of Quakes fans. Either way, inexcusable.
🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨Almeyda to stay with @SJEarthquakes ??? 👀 “A million things will be said, but I only thanked them, then told them NO”. - @peladoalmeyda **speaking to Reporter Jesús Hernández https://t.co/EGE2BguLkh— herculez gomez (@herculezg) October 9, 2019
It seemed imminent his arrival to the royal complex, but at 5:00 p.m. the technician informed the Rayada entourage that he appreciated the interest , that he flattered the proposal, but that it was not the time. "You can say a thousand things, I thanked them and said no," Almeyda said shortly from San Jose where there was a practice with his players. Almeyda was blunt. https://www.milenio.com/futbol/club-monterrey/matias-almeyda-habria-rechazado-oferta-monterrey
I think the league wants him gone since he speaks what most of us have thought. The refs in this league are atrocious & have been getting worse year to year. Even with VAR they can't get it right.
Its a good thing Almeyda doesn't speak English because the league will have hated him even more than they do now if he did...
Yeah, the league wants to get rid of coaches that raise the play and profile of the league. And I see they have gotten rid of all those other players, coaches and owners who have spoken up about poor officiating.
The league loves Almeyda. He's everything they need...great coaching ability and passion...he's great TV. Everything he does improves his team... which improves the league. There is absolutely no way they are trying to drum him out of the league. They could throw him a couple bones with some calls though.
We still don't know what Matias said to get himself ejected twice and banned from four subsequent games. That's 6 of 34 games altogether he wasn't allowed to coach or finish coaching (more than 15 percent for you data geeks). And the MLS official PR organ has written more than one breathless rumor about him leaving. That's a grammar school method of showing affection.
https://www.mediotiempo.com/futbol/liga-mx/matias-almeyda-se-aleja-del-banquillo-de-monterrey We read earlier Monterrey was offering 3 Million to the Quakes. This report mentions that it is only 5 players and a friendly match (read somehere else that there will be some cash too but not 3 million). I don't think the 5 players plus friendly match deal makes any sense. We will likely need 5 international slots plus salary cap to cover these players from Monterrey and who knows how much cash a friendly can bring. Of course, if Almeyda decided to leave, then our bargaining power might be less.
I thought the reason for first ejection was that he accused the referee(s) of cheating. Then, he refused to leave the field and he tussled with the escort and came back a couple of steps to interact with a jeering fan. That’s probably what led to the extra suspension. The second ejection in Atlanta was presumably more accusations of cheating, as that is why Wondo was ejected.

Matias Almeyda says Chris Wondolowski has an offer to come back to #Quakes74 in 2020.— Jeff Carlisle (@JeffreyCarlisle) October 9, 2019 Almeyda says that he doesn't anticipate too many changes to the roster for next season. Of course, it remains to be seen how he'll define "too many changes." #Quakes74— Jeff Carlisle (@JeffreyCarlisle) October 9, 2019 Almeyda on @ChrisWondo: "He has been given a contract offer so that he can retire in San Jose." He added that Wondo might not be a regular starter moving forward, but he would like him back with the #Quakes74.— Robert Jonas (@robertjonas) October 9, 2019 Almeyda (via translator): "Coaches always get mad when we get fired. We have to be coherent & keep going when we have a contract, even though offers are 10x larger than where you are at." He said in last year he's had multiple offers from clubs & one national team in S. America.— Jeff Carlisle (@JeffreyCarlisle) October 9, 2019
