FCD v. SKC is definitely the game to watch today from a YNT perspective. But some other notable inclusions on this Decision Day: - Dotson and Gaspar start for Minny (Toye on bench) - Ebobisse starts for PDX (Williamson, Farfan on bench) - Yueill starts for SJ - Robinson starts for ATL - Aaronson and McKenzie start for Philly - Glad starts for RSL - Duncan starts for NYRB
Ferreira with a goal and assist although it’s against a much weaker side. Hoping they show up again in the playoffs. Edit: This thread died a bit, but at the same time have our boys disappointed a bit?
Transfermarkt gives him 8 and 6 in all competitions from 2632 minutes. Considering his age and that this is his first season playing regularly, I think that's respectable. I know I'll catch flak for saying this, but I think he had a better season than Pomykal.
Important to consider his position switch, too. Did he even have a goal or assist while playing in the midfield? Great season either way. But Pomykal carried the team during the stretch where they basically earned their playoff spot, and his national team contributions can't be ignored either. For Pomykal, it's just a matter of staying healthy. I am encouraged that he fared pretty well considering how physical and taxing this season was for him.
Pomykal shot out like a cannon at the start of the season, got hurt, played well at the U20WC, but since then has really been uneven. Big lesson for the youngsters of FCD here. Its one thing to have a great month. How do you stay healthy and maintain that consistency over the course of a full season? And with USYNT/USMNT callups, etc. as well. Ferreira ended up being FCD's leading scorer, albeit with only 8 goals. He kind of played everywhere. He wasn't playing as a forward over the last couple of months, but more as a #10. That had to do with his ability there, but also with the fact that the Cobra started scoring. Havin a #9 that can score is an odd thing for an FCD fan to see. By the way, first assist of the season for Reggie Cannon yesterday. That's a part of his game that's gotta develop too. He's been solid in a lot of ways this season, but nothing for FCD that makes you jump out of your seat. One goal. One assist. Just a solid, steady, good level of play. Not many huge disappointments for the FCD youngsters. Reynolds and Roberts got about the minutes I expected. They're both sitting behind other youngsters. Same for Cerrillo, who fell behind Servania in the pecking order. Nelson did well until he got hurt. Limited chances after that as Hollingshead/Cannon had the fullback spots on lockdown. Pepi getting as many minutes as he did was a huge surprise. I didn't see that coming at all. In the grand scheme of things, I'm satisfied with the regular season. Inexperienced coach, new front office, and very young team. Made the playoffs, and that meets my expectations. In the grand scheme of things, they finished only 5 points back of 3rd. If they can make noise in the playoffs, well then that's gravy. If FCD went with youth strategy, and didn't make the playoffs, I'd be worried about the reaction from the front office. By making the playoffs, I think they'll stay the course and continue to build on it. SKC, by the way, what a stinker. Totally capitulated in that game. Kids or no kids, that team flat out gave up. That should give the SKC ownership/leadership cause for concern when it comes to Vermes and their path. I do worry about them going out and signing a bunch of mediocre veterans.
My prediction is that Reggie Cannon gets sold to Europe either in January or next June. I feel confident about it. Dallas won't hijack a move with a huge price
I thought Servania had a monster game. He's a great disruptor, covers lots of ground and plays very physical for being just 20. His missing the last two games coupled with Pomykal being not 100% might explain the results of the games a bit.
Michel had an underrated season and is a sleeper to factor into Olympic qualifying, especially when you consider the weakness of a-wing, and potential unavailability of a lot of players. He posted a solid 6 goals+assists in 944 minutes for a crappy Orlando team. Was dangerous on the break due to his elite speed. Not such an intricate player, but not a donkey either, and pretty opportunistic thanks to his strong mentality. Here's his goal in the finale: Benji Michel. Orlando's own. 🙌 #ORLvCHI pic.twitter.com/N1tLatwM1Q— Orlando City SC (@OrlandoCitySC) October 6, 2019
Cannon as a RB who is strong defensively but not a plus going forward is a key cog, but an fairly easy cog to replace, so definitely a piece that you move for what you can get and not think twice about it.
According to Wiki (which is never wrong), he repeatedly turned down potential cap-tying call-ups to Haiti, and camped w/ the US u-23's this summer. Actually listed as never having been capped by Haiti on any level. So the answer to your question appears to be - no.
He was on Haiti's provisional roster for the Gold Cup, but wasn't on the final roster. ICYMI: Our thread on Brenden Aaronson 🇺🇸, the 18-year-old American who's in his first senior #USMNT camp... and who looks very, very good. 🙇♂️ https://t.co/5jPraNcw3M— smarterscout (@smarterscout) October 8, 2019
https://theathletic.com/1280345/2019/10/09/ Paxton signs a new 4+1 contract worth 650k a year. Not sure what to think about this one.
That he's been poorly advised? That he's lost confidence in himself? That he likes life in Dallas? Distressing ...
This is where any decent agent needs to put a buyout clause in exchange for extending. Miles Robinson signed a new extension yesterday too.
An extension like this is almost always done for the same core reason -- to raise the price-tag on the transfer fee. I don't think it's indicative of anything other than that yet.
It's indicative of Pax not being able to leave whenever he wants for the next 5 years. I don't like that idea given Dallas's track record.
I've heard he'll be sold in the next 12 to 18 months. If he isn't sold in that time period (and it's not due to a catastrophic injury - e.g., ACL tear), feel free to come back on here and call me an idiot.
We don't know the details of this deal, and won't ever know them outside of his wages. If this deal contains a release clause of $500k-$1M then, it won't hurt his chances of getting to Europe if he wants to. If there isn't a release clause, or if it is over the $3M + variety, he still has a ton to prove on the pitch before a move comes to fruition.
