I don’t disagree with you but for a different reason. For all my disdain of Lumpy he is still better to train under than GGG.
So, here's a thing I did that might partially explain why Pulisic is not getting a lot of playing time at Chelsea. Basically I made a graph, using WhoScored performance scores, to show that CP is underperforming, compared to the average Chelsea performance, in most matches. I chose WhoScored data because they are freely available, commonly used, and seem to be unbiased. Please note that I am not saying Pulisic is a bad player, I am merely showing he is a very good player in a squad of other very good players, and so far his performances seem to be such that not playing him is warranted. Other than the match against Sheffield United, Pulisic' performances have either been equivalent to the average Chelsea player performance (the Milk Cup match against the fishmongers) or below that of the team's average performance (every other match he's played in). Please note, the team averages are not weighted by minutes played. I don't have all day for this crap.
About minute 82 CP must have felt extremely frustrated. He is starting to play that Kagawa role really well, finding space top of the box between the lines and making a quick move and a good pass. He is pointing maybe 5 times for either Kova or Jorgi to please pass to him centrally because he is open and able to turn and get on goal for a pass or shot and they both look him off over and over and over again and they proceed to lose possession. When he does finally get the ball (by the way, looked off by Jorgi again, Bats sets him up) where he wants it, he turns and goal happens.
Whoscored is gonna be a little misleading at this point. You're penalized in their rating system for starting on the bench so despite an assist in 10 mins he gets a 6.9, lowest across the attack. And 2 of his 4 assists this season come in matches not rated by whoscored.
1. Explain his below average (compared to the rest of the team) performances in matches that he started. 2. Which matches were not rated by WhoScored?
Will all the other international players also do that? Maybe he'd like to play a full 90 minute game once in a while.
Which two are those? I included the Uefa Super Cup match against the Bin Dippers and the League Cup match against the Mariners.
What a wonderful assist today... 3 defenders completely taken out of the game, or was it 4? Fantastic play from attacking midfield.
Post game words from Lumpy suggest Pulisic is in the plans going forward and will get time. If Mount plays more central and Puli can make himself 3rd choice winger behind Willian and CHO, he'll get occasional starts. If Lampard employs more a 4-2-3-1 rather than a 4-3-3 and sticks Mount at LWF. Still I must say Puli offers playmaking ability others in the attack do not. I'm also reminded of talk around here last season about how selfish Puli is and he refuses to play balls to others. That ball today shows matured vision from him. Similar to the one vs Liverpool where he's drawing 4 defenders and playing an inch perfect pass in the center of the pitch. I think he should go on the caveman diet and eat ribeyes for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Nah...just do more squats and dead lifts and add a couple protein shakes to his daily diet. Competition in the midfield with be very tough once RLC comes back, and Kante is 100% fit.
lol what complete nonsense. What’s the source on this please? Others asked but it seems like you ignored them.
Man United is a real life example of what Chelsea would look like if the nonsense that gets posted in this thread about Lampard being a poor manager who gives preferential treatment to under par young players were true.
If not a starter, at least a good choice sub when trying to unlock a hunker-down defense. CP’s penalty area penetrate-and-pass act could be attractive alternative to the usual mindless crossing into a crowded box routine.
I watched Lampard's post-game comments here: and here: https://www.nbcsports.com/video/frank-lampard-chelseas-win-v-southampton-young-squad-and-team-depth He says Willian's "been [in] the last four or five games our best player" and that Hudson-Odoi's workrate "was all the things I want from the wingers" and that he's only going to get better now that he's returning to full match fitness after his injury. And about other players: "I get asked weekly 'Why is he not in the squad? 'Why is he on the bench?' [about] certain players. We need all the players. You need the contribution of Michy coming on and getting his goal. He's been training very well. Christian coming on with a great assist for the goal. And those players, absolutely we need them if the games come thick and fast. So at the moment, we're going well, we're keeping pretty much a similar core of the team, but we're going to need everyone. And that means training at a level; that means being happy as a complete group when we come away and get a result like this."
