I love our new owners. I hate the Browns and think they have the absolute worst colors in sports. It honestly would turn me off to Crew if they went that direction....sounds petty, but I'm serious.
Because I was a Pittsburgh fan long before I was a Crew fan. I will always abhor anything "Cleveland" oriented. The "Mistake by the Lake". Cleveland to me is what Michigan is to Ohio State.
Look the Browns have to have the color Brown in uniforms. They have too so it's not really their fault. BUT other than Chocolate Lab Puppies, NOTHING looks good in brown My HS colors were Brown & Gold and I hated them. Refused to get varsity jacket because they were so gawd afful. Throw the Orange in and it's almost worse. Now I will say that somehow they have made it work with the color rush uniforms. They're the best they have ever had - not even close to best in league. But in the end it is really just putting lipstick on a giant turd.
Moving away from yellow leaves black and white. That doesn't inspire creativeness. Thank you for tuning into this episode of BigSternTakes.
Black and White is almost the same as DC United (who accents with red).
If you need someone to explain the thinking of those who want to purge us of all PSV era creations.....I am kind of stunned that any Crew fan needs that explained to them. Not agreeing with it is fine. But not understanding it? Golly. For the record, and in the post, I said I do not really have a problem with the crest. One of two decent things PSV did (3G hire). As for the SC/FC thing, again, read the original post. Real has historical meaning in Spain (loyalist/crown supported). But in Salt Lake it is just meaningless drivel. I generally oppose meaningless drivel. Which is what the FC/SC is. Why is it there? To distinguish Columbus Crew Soccer Club from the Columbus Crew Rugby club? Basketball club? There is only one FFS. Again, useless drivel and Europandering. Plus PSV shoved it down our throats. Drop it.
It's funny (not really), that when you red through the club history on the Crew website, it's all "Crew," "Crew," "Crew," until 2015, when all references shift to "Crew SC." By the way, that page needs a re-write in a bad way. The 2015 entry concludes: I can't wait to find out how 2016 worked out!!!
Oh, no, I'm sorry. I do understand, I'm just not sure if I agree. Though I can see the appeal of washing everything PSV touched from the franchise's history, I also believe that PSV brought a lot of positives (ok, a few) to the organization and erasing them would be a poor choice and needless use of resources. It's a part of our history, and though the period will be viewed as mostly negative it shouldn't be erased. But at the end of the day it's a very personal matter of opinion. I appreciate you sharing yours and humoring me with a response.
West Ham Sandwich has not provided enough sponsorship money to cover both G/B/U and BigSternTakes. I have Steve Lyons on a consultant contract to find an adequate sponsor for that and any other outstanding services I provide BigSoccer.
I had literally forgotten the existence of Corey Ashe. Not to beat a dead horse, but 'Crew'/'Crew SC'? Don't really care. It's not like we're Dallas, Kansas City, or the NY/NJ Metrostars.
I never say Columbus Crew SC! It is always Columbus Crew! The new logo probably is better looking than the old logo but the three hard hat guys are more interesting. It's like the Ajax logo, which is the head of a Greek hero! Don't have any idea why a Greek hero on their logo,I always thought it was a Conquistador head and helmet! At least that is what the information on the Ajax sight said!
Ajax was a Greek hero in the Trojan war... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ajax_the_Great Now why a team from the Netherlands chose him...
Probably for the same reason why a team from Prague chose to be named after Sparta. . . probably has to do something with having a warrior spirit. (Sparta Prague, not to be confused with the various Spartak sports clubs, most famously Spartak Moscow, which are named after Spartacus, who was a popular historical figure for Communist and trade unionist movements).
The only rebranding this team needs is to add "MASSIVE" in little letters below the neckline on the back of the jersey. Black for the yellow jersey and yellow for the black jersey. Well, that and @zman31 comment about the Pee Court. I would pay good money to buy a memorial brick in the Precourt Pee Court.
Ok, I'm going to look into getting urinal splash guards with his name on them. I wasn't a highschool stoner, but I remember the Wendy's bathroom urinal splash guards having the phrase "Say NO to Drugs" written on them. It struck me as a funny place to put that, so wrote a poem about it that I can still recall: Walk into the bathroom, man I gotta go Step up to the urinal and whaddya know? Written in the bottom, just as plain as day "Say No to Drugs," piss on that I say. This site seems like a winner: https://www.peepeeface.com/
