The player was U18at the time, had his father not been provided with a job that justifies the kid moving instead of the other way around would see the transfer be deemed illegal and we'd have to let him go after UEFA's takedown of all youth transfers. So in hindsight it was a great move to hire his father.
The irony is we're weakest at midfield, however that is also the area we have so many options. If James can keep things going, we're in a situation where we would be crazy to spend big on someone like Pogba. However if things fall apart and some of these loanee players stagnate we're vulnerable and desperate.
The main difference between what i saw against PSG compared to Sevilla & Osasuna was our ability to maintain our overall shape (Against PSG you would be forgiven if you thought we were playing a 4-2-4). I was skeptical the same midfield 3 could change so much but they put in a shift (along with the forwards) and made a conscious effort to hold their positions and track runners. I'm assuming that's what Zidane was asking for when he asked for intensity. Our midfield problem for me isn't a personnel problem - it's a mentality problem. If our team can maintain this "intensity" we will soon forget the midfield was ever a problem. Spending big will only help if we spend on people who can bring this intensity on a consistent basis.
Almost everybody on Bigsoccer thought a La Liga loan would help him immensely, but the guy is exceeding most expectations IMO. I don’t think he needs to stay a second season at La Real.
I remember when everybody thought we'd destroy his career lmao. Or he was just bought for the prestige, kid killing it. Ended great last season with Vitesse and started fantastic in Liga. He actually is THE successor of Modric. Besides that he is so technical, he ran like crazy the first half. His work rate is immense.
I know it's annoying but I have to do it. I'm so glad to have been one of the guys who knew what kind of player he was and still expecting so much from him. Following him in Eredevise and being so happy whenever he performed and he did so often. Ridiculing those who thought he was a flop. Now he's finally here and announcing himself to the world. Following a "non-mainstream" young player kind of leaves you proud like they're your child
If he keeps his form up and comes back to us, for it to continue working, whoever is playing in front of him for us is going to have to “move” and make runs, not just stand around marking defenders
Really happy for him. Didn't allow distractions to impact him, put his head down and seems focussed on making it at Real Madrid. It has only been 6 matches but he has been consistent so far. As others have said, if he can keep it up throughout the season then I think he could be a valuable addition for us next year.
We should be careful not to overhype. For example, Ceballos was getting tremendous praise in his first few Arsenal games, but he is still fighting for his place there and it's precarious at the moment. That being said, Odegaard is putting in a body of work that looks to be consistent over time. It has only been 6 games in La Liga, and we will have a better picture at the end of the year, but it's arguable that he has been the best player in La Liga thus far.
Yeah most people were thinking he's done and will never play for a big club but here he is proving doubters wrong. He's obviously been putting work in. Fingers crossed this season goes well for him.
Since the start of the 2016/17 season, no player has created more chances in a single LaLiga game than Martin Ødegaard's 10 vs. Alavés.Which included one absolutely outrageous assist. 🤤 pic.twitter.com/GBegk6D3aV— Squawka (@Squawka) September 26, 2019
Martin Ødegaard this season:-3.7 key passes per game (1st in La Liga)-2.8 dribbles completed per game (4th in La Liga)-2 goals and 1 assist-Real Sociedad’s player of the month for AugustBest player in La Liga so far this season. pic.twitter.com/XF1Dw3P9vI— Zach Lowy (@ZachLowy) September 26, 2019
Florentino: "People know that I, if I can, will bring the best players in the world. I have never been offered Griezmann. Odegaard came at 16 & now he's 20. He's between 2-3 best players in Holland. In 2-3 years he will be one of the stars of Real Madrid!"— M•A•J (@Ultra_Suristic) May 27, 2019 Flo in May.
Haven’t seen anyone with Odegaard ability to find a runner since Guti. This is not to say that Odegaard is going to be great ( I 100% think he will ) or a club legend, just talking about his vision.
Like some here said last season, Ode was no less than Ligt and Jong in terms of elite talent. Only difference was that he was with Vitesse instead of Ajax. Now killing it in La Liga ahead of big money signings like Felix and Jong.
