Sure, but his Dad? And his? And if you go back far enough, everybody's ancestors were all prehistoric fish, which means that we are too. Going to make it quite hard to get a squad together.

Again, a good point and extending our discussion about horses and chickens... it's going to be a tough call, picking an 'England underwater 11'.

Don't forget those Ozzie lads' grandparents grandparents were born here so we win either way.

Well, we drew the Ashes but that’s not bigger than the World Cup. Test match cricket is in a sorry state across the globe, it’s one day cricket & 20-20 which takes priority these days.

You said they were 'rubbish'. That's clearly not true, is it.

Aside from one fabulously memorable innings from Ben Stokes ( not English ) they were pants and one day the whole team were out for something like 67 in one of the innings .

And they still won that test match. Ben Stokes has been living in England since he was 10 years old so at least he’s come through the system.

They just about managed to draw the series due to his superhuman effort that day .. against possibly one of the worst ever Australia squads to visit our shores ..

Definitely one of the worst batting lineups with the exception of the Super human Steve Smith but their bowling attack is excellent. Like I said before though, Test cricket is poor globally at the moment, certainly batting baring Steve Smith and Kohli but tell me this, if we’re so rubbish, name me a better one day team?

Maddison is probably out of the Leicester game on Sunday with injury.

Chris Smalling having a good debut with Roma so far. Probably one of the few players able to match Duvan Zapata for size & strength.

Ox is looking like the weakest link in a weak Liverpool team against the mighty MKD .

A couple of the Liverpool youngsters, Elliot ( just 16) and Jones looking very decent though ..

Based on a youtube comp of all his touches, Hudson Odoi, albeit rusty, looked quick tonight. Reassuring

Yeah he's missed quite a few big chances, but didn't seem to have any problems getting into good positions though.

Don't know if it's just me, but I couldn't think of anything worse then playing Scotland in a tournament. That match will be overhpyed to the stars and it will become a brave heart circus in the weeks leading to it.

Yeah, Battle of Britain and all that, the Scots will be constantly rewatching Braveheart and Outlander beforehand to remind us how bad we all are and must cost them a fortune constantly buying the shirts of our opposition. ;)

Anyway, highly unlikely that they will qualify for the next Euro’s anyway. In fact, not sure if they still can?

On another note, Lingard was absolutely shocking again last night. I know United are a complete mess atm and it's a difficult place to play but his performances continue to leave a lot to be desired. We all know that Southgate seems to favour previous performances for England over club form but surely there comes a point when the scales are tipped so far that it can no longer be enough to get in just on the basis of a few games for England. Mount and Maddison just have to be the first choice attacking midfield options going forward, I've had enough of Barkley and Lingard and so have most people it seems.

I never u de ratios the lingard hype

He doesn’t pass great, can’t tackle and doesn’t have a consistent goal threat

Mount is already miles ahead and much younger for that role

Ali is also not worthy of a call up

By my reckoning, even though I’ve not heard anything but I think the Squad for the next set of qualifying games should be announced this time next week.

This weekend could be a big opportunity to really put their hand up to be selected. It’s going to be interesting as some of Southgates usual picks have been struggling to cement a starting birth for their Premier League teams like Alli, Gomez ( would definitely pick him though as he’s too good to leave out in that position and no one better ) Barkley and Lingard. I think he will still pick them and give the excuse that it’s to early in the season to drop players that maybe haven’t been starting as much as he would like but guess we will wait and see. Not sure what Southgates criteria would be this early in the season.
