Tough opponent. Should be good.
I mean, if they can't get a decent turnout for this...Not late on a school night, not too hot, after Cowboys game...come on.
Yeah that's pretty low. Gotta be mid teens at least. When the place is filled up it pretty much rocks. Hope that's the result today but mentally preparing myself for shots of the sunny, sleepy, baking barely filled east side that I'm used to. Which is then reflected with the sluggish soccer that comes along with it. Yay fall!
Whatever radio show I was listening to on my way home from the Atlanta game tonight billed this one as a big hurdle for New York. "While Dallas has been boom or bust, they've been very hard to beat at home."
Seems like Univision/mas use MLS games as a training ground for their camera operators and directors. The TX 21 games are better produced than the Univision/mas games.
There's always an excuse for our crap attendance. I'll go with the heat and it's during the day when kids games are being played. I'll be in one of the sunny seats on the east side. Paxton questionable with abdominal strain. Get that guy some core work during the offseason.
easily the worst attended match of the year also, I'll remind everyone, was "Hall of Fame Weekend". What exactly was all that hoopla, construction and hype about? Seriously, after all that noise about bringing that project to Frisco and the benefits that would come with it - you end up with a Sunday afternoon game with approx 5000 butts in seats for what was an incredibly important game? I've got all sorts of questions about Lucci's management of Pax and questionable preference of Jesus in midfield, but I just can't get past the larger looming reality this model of business the Hunts have chosen to pursue will doom it to a half empty stadium. If fielding a side powered by your own product and managed by one of your own is the offering, yesterday's attendance - especially when you consider the quality of opponent and importance of the result - a clear indicator the market is voting with their wallet. (probably doesn't help they can't even manage to correctly spell their own name)
Extra A and missing L. Perfectly describes why attendance is poor. No attention to detail. The Academy has people who know what they're doing and care while the business side is mostly kids and people who skate by without accountability. I sometimes ask myself if I'd like it better if I was priced out of seats because they sold out every game but the team had a great home-field advantage or whether I appreciate them doing everything they can to let me buy cheap tickets because they can never sell out.
Spot on and the spelling thing was just such so poetic for this club. No one who really cares about this club gave 2 shits about the hall of fame. If you're intent on staying in the suburbs and getting a suburban crowd, fine. Improve the stadium, absolutely. But don't hide that in this hall of fame nonsense. Don't spend all this cash on this project while you're being cheap shitheads in the FO. You get what you pay for and we've seen it for 16 years now. It just shows how out of touch the Hunts are with their market and this game in general to think that anyone associated with this club would now flock to Toyota because of the HoF. As for the game, horribly disappointed to give up a goal so early in such an important game and to not pull our heads out until the 2nd half. We're all going to look back on that Hollingshead miss at the end with a smack to our collective foreheads when the season is over. Not that it matters, this team would lose their first playoff match anyway.
So official attendance was 14.6k? 5k does seems too low but taking the under 12k sure seems correct. Sorta filled in later. Sigh.
Not the first time they've screwed up on the spelling with those banners. I remember chanting "F L Dac las!" at a game a year or two ago. Seems like every game the seats are empty at the beginning and fill up somewhat as the game moves on. As I anticipated, the soccer hall of fame does damn near nothing for the club, except maybe it makes it more likely that MLS doesn't take our franchise due to crap attendance. I thought we looked better after Mosquera went in for Badji. Did anyone else notice the cheers for Badji leaving the game?
It's totally HSG to not know how to take advantage of the HOF. Didn't even realize they had the annual event until a few days before. I can only imagine what a good front office with a great marketing team could do with that. For one thing I'd do it in the off season so some sort of exhibition game could be there. Be extra cool if they had a men's / women's double header. Even a match between retired HOF'ers with men and women on both teams. How can they screw this up as the possibilities are endless. Had to come back to add more as this is now bothering me. Why not a three day all-star type event only with various age groups involving national teams. Or they could tie it into Dallas Cup and make that even bigger and more enhance both.
We talked about this on this week's podcast: The whole concussion incident is shameful and blame can be equally spread across both teams' staffs. But Dan's revelation that the on-site MLS doctor, who's gig it is to review and clear players in these scenarios, DIDN'T EVEN INSPECT EITHER PLAYER BEFORE THEY WERE ALLOWED TO RETURN, is stunning and shameful. How does this happen? I got other fingers to point too, but this single one makes zero sense and there has to be more to the story, right?
That is really bad and that doctor shouldn't be allowed to work for the league again "IF" he was told. If he wasn't told then someone else should catch hell. Of course the Doctor should have been able to tell without being told if he was there watching as it was pretty obviously a situation where concussions were not only possible but likely. Make sure you tell Taylor Twellman so he can go on a rant (justified in this case).
