Did you and any other supporter expert aka Ultras hater on here do anything for the atmosphere? Made a tifo? Organized a large group of away Quakes fans? Started chants? Did charity work for other fans? Did any of you help the Ultras in any way? So why exactly are you concerned about them? You want to run another individual's household while he is paying the bills and doing the choires. Do you really think that the Ultras need you guys to teach them anything? I would absolutely have a group of 50 people whom I can count on and who are decent human beings than a group filled with ungrateful, vile people who talk crap about the group while taking full advantage of it. The original post as well as Tiffany Sue's posts made their way into the Ultras discussion board and you better believe that it changed everybody's mind about being hospitable and inviting people to be part of our family. Solid member are welcome. Back stabbers, stay away. Numbers mean absolutely nothing for the Ultras. They are not TA, ECS or LAFC to make money off their members and develop profitable businesses based on that. The Ultras are not big enough or good enough for your taste. Start your own group. So far, NOTHING good for stadium atmosphere came out of this board. NOTHING. Just endless discussion bashing the Ultras and nothing positive or productive.
Dang proud smurf you used to be chill and a great poster around here and now you seem all bitter and wanting to attack your fellow Quakes fans. I know you’ve put a ton of work into this and I respect and appreciate you for that but attacking your fellow fans isn’t the answer. Sorry to see you so wound up and disgruntled upon your return - but you should quit with all the finger pointing and accusations, it’s lame.
I like the Ultras and am grateful for what they add to games. That being said, I think we also need another larger group that starts fresh. The FO should put resources (money, marketing, etc.) into getting a new group started.
The Nazis appropriated an ancient symbol that meant "good fortune" in almost every culture in the world. Time to take it back! https://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-29644591 The Boy Scouts adopted it, and the Girl Scouts even called their magazine Swastika.
Since the discussion has now (predictably ) turned to California crate labels, I have a framed collection in my kitchen, the common-denominator of which is the label must be from San Jose. The Moffett Hanger one shown below is particularly rare, though, for obvious reasons, perhaps not as rare as the swastika one, which thankfully is not from San Jose (and I would not display it, even it if were).
OG scarf. 16 years, same mentality: "Win or lose, we'll always be here for you" pic.twitter.com/FB8BuDZJ5q— San Jose Ultras (@SanJoseUltras) September 21, 2019
Not always true. There have been several (i.e. more than two) occasions I remember just since we've been at Avaya where the Ultras either boycotted the game, or arrived well after the start.
I claim that I’ve “paid my dues”: At Buck Shaw, I made bigheads that I brought to every game. Someone finally told me I was blocking their view. For 11 years, we brought people to games. I went to all the save our team and the build it now rallies I have posted my notes in this forum to help keep others informed I’m sorry any smurf thinks I’m a fascist. I simply think we have some of the worst apparent fan support in mls right now. If Ultras are a barrier to fixing that, then we need fan groups who can work together to make new things happen.
Still don't see how the Ultras are a barrier to anything. If there is a dire need and want for a new type of supporter group then shouldn't it be able to happen on its own regardless of the Ultras? And again, why don't you start one of these fan groups you think is so needed?
I don't know that the Ultras are a barrier. That's why I said "If". I had only read things in the past on this forum that intimated conflict between the Ultras and new supporters groups (such as this one from mar-2017). I didn't know both of the new groups (Imperico and Faultline) were apparently splinter groups that maybe had an axe to bear, but actually, that's irrelevant anyway. The point is that for the Quakes to have a vibrant wall of supporters at one end of the field, all groups have to work in unison. I'm not going to start a new SG because I like where my seats are, and the last place I want to sit in any stadium is behind the goal. I have, however, volunteered at community outreach events on behalf of the Quakes and the Casbah. I can support an SG in other ways than being part of a wall behind the goal. It's too hard to eat my hot dog and kettle corn while jumping and singing the whole game.
Seattle fan hospitalized last night after incident in DC. I expect collective punishment against the San Jose Ultras from the league office. https://wtop.com/dc-united/2019/09/nearly-20-people-involved-in-fan-fight-outside-audi-field/
Mostly, the FO need to get their collective heads out of the asses and learn to work with the existing SG and stop treating them like parriahs. Just a thought. Go Quakes!! - Mark
Well said. And I mostly blame the FO, who for the most part, want a tame, "family friendly" SG. Which is nonsense, and have you been on a junior high school or high school campus lately? The kids are potty mouths. I've gotten many of my best vulgarisms from kids. In any case, both groups need to figure out how to get along with each other better. Go Quakes!! - Mark
You don't have organized fascist groups running street demonstrations in your town, do you? The Timbers Army are overwhelmingly about soccer, but, they also donate a weekend a year to help Habitat for Humanity to build housing, they raise money for charities, and in general are really involved in the community. The community now, unfortunately, includes a bunch of actual neo-nazis organizing protests and street marches, and appearances at various city hall and other local government meetings. There was, until recently, a white supremacist day care in my city. The local fascists invite fascists from all over the nation to come behave like asshole in our area. So it's a serious issue here, and standing up to fascists, well, it's a lot like MLS's "Don't Cross The Line" campaign, don't you think? GO Quakes!! - Mark
Well said. Nazis and Fascists aren’t just people with a differing political viewpoint. Their entire purpose is the degradation, removal and outright elimination of other human beings for inherently born traits. They’re not just right wing politicos. They cannot be tolerated as their speech should not be protected. There is a line the first amendment doesn’t protect... and they’ve found it. I mean our grandfathers fought a war over this bullshit.
I'm aware of the various community-oriented things the Timbers Army are involved in and applaud them. In many ways, they are a model supporters group. But the fetish for Iron Front, Che, and Japanese Imperial War flags is not among their selling points. As for actual neo-nazis, they seem to be attracted by all the attention. When they come to the Bay Area, they make a beeline for Berkeley. Try ignoring them and see if they go away.
Our grandfathers fought a war so people we disagree with can say what they please, and a bunch of black clad street thugs don't get to say otherwise. Your authoritarianism is showing.
It's not just speech. They've incited riots on more than one occassion in Portland. Also, the Portland Police are more likely to arrest lefty protestors than the fascists. Indeed, some of the Portland Police are fascists themselves. It's a tough situation, and I don't have an answer for it. Go Quakes!! - Mark
