He guys I am in your country for a small fortnight to watch Jérémie's and his new team. So this is a Tind(socc)er post to see whether I can (watch a) match with one of you ! If you are close to Dayton and able to cope with my light French accent, send me an MP. I would be delighted to talking football with you in the real life. I am Today in Milwaukee (very nice city) for the Raiders' opening conference game, at 7PM central time. https://wsuraiders.com/news/2019/9/...o-open-horizon-play-on-the-road-saturday.aspx Then I will be in Dayton to be able to watch two home games the 24th and the 28th. Flying back to the Old Europe the 2nd Oct. A bientôt?
Milwaukee has a quirky district on the other side of the river (?) called the Iron district (I think it's been a few years) with interesting breweries.
A beautiful away win 4-1 against Milwaukee. Am I their talisman ? https://wsuraiders.com/news/2019/9/21/mens-soccer-raiders-open-horizon-play-with-road-victory.aspx Better team spirit meant the win was to come.
Well the promise of three wins to the overseas’ visiting Dad is still alive. Win 3-1 against Purdue Fort Wayne. Big difference between the two teams. There was never a real contest. WSU dominated from the start of the game, but did not score their opportunities. So on one of very rare attacks, PFE benefited of a double mistake by WSU défense to take the lead. WSU woke up and quickly equalized. Then it was one way traffic. The team is now regularly improving in its commitment and involvement. Bodes well for the future. To be confirmed on Sunday for a key conference game. May the happy visiting Dad highlight his son’s assist on the second WSU goal. Happy... and proud visiting Dad
The Purdue Fort Wayne game recap. https://wsuraiders.com/news/2019/9/...es-two-goals-lift-raiders-past-mastodons.aspx "The Raiders outshot Purdue Fort Wayne 23-5 on the night, with 10 of their attempts going on net. Wright State also recorded a 12-1 advantage in corner kick opportunities." Area of improvement: be more clinical... faster. In order to avoid opponents to be in position to score a fluke goal on one of their rare attacks and thus grow confidence. Football is a highly psychological game with narrow scores. So better to be ruthless… quickly. A good point: WSU swiftly bounced back to equalize and then master the game. Then they shown they can be a very good team, from the back to the top. I am enjoying to watch them. And their staff is made up with nice and warm quality persons. My stay is delightful so far
Well my hope for a three win streak for my visit has been shattered by a very bad performance on Saturday against Northern Kentucky. Loss 2-1. Thus a deserved win for NKU.…… The WSU team was just not there. They turned up on the pitch and then did they think it would be sufficient to win? Maybe, they should not have scored within one minute of the start. It meant that complacency, leading to lack of focus, engagement and technical accuracy would not have settled down. Result a game that everybody want to forget: alumni, families, fans and others. https://wsuraiders.com/news/2019/9/...-to-northern-kentucky-despite-early-goal.aspx On the road for a game against Duke in NC, tomorrow evening. Let's hope they bounce back and are motivated to make the required efforts to play as a team hating to loose. They have the potential.
This home loss means that the RPI ranking moved to 66 from 32... A little bit gloomy to possibly qualify via the RPI bubble….
Draw at Duke: 2-2. And I understand that during the OT, WSU touched the wood twice. It seems the team is very happy with their performance. Now they are in the bus for an eight+ hour bus ride to be in time for tomorrow’s classes.
Hot and cold……. Loss at home against Portland in OT: 3-2. Now 5 4 1 for a RPI at 69. https://wsuraiders.com/news/2019/10...lls-in-overtime-saturday-night.aspx?path=msoc Must bounce back for the big away conference game against UIC (8 3 0 ) on the Oct 12 (Sat) at 8:00 PM CT.
Big game for the Horizon League contest this week-end. https://wsuraiders.com/news/2019/10/11/mens-soccer-raiders-hit-the-road-to-face-uic.aspx The winner could get a big confidence bonus to head for the second part of the season.
Back in August, I had this one pegged for a good match. Watch out for Jesus (Chino) Perez in UIC Midfield.
Second loss in a row during the OT for WSU. UIC equalized 23 secs before the end of RT. Then…. scored the golden goal. https://wsuraiders.com/news/2019/10...den-goal-saturday-night-at-uic.aspx?path=msoc That means a near perfect end of schedule to be well placed in the conference in order to go to the tournament, and then hoping to get the seat for the NCAA. Because via the RPI it is a lost cause….. With the loss, Wright State drops to 5-5-1 overall and 1-3-0 in Horizon League action, while UIC improves to 9-3-0 overall and 3-1-0 in league play.
A win and apparently comfortable against Detroit Mercy. Finally outshot the opponents in both shots and SoG. https://wsuraiders.com/news/2019/10...ift-raiders-past-detroit-mercy.aspx?path=msoc "The Raiders outshot Detroit Mercy 23-11 on the night, with 13 of their attempts going on net. Wright State also recorded a 7-3 advantage in corner kick opportunities." Let's hope that now the players have the head well set on their shoulders and understand that they have to always make the right efforts to ensure that their offensive skills are not wasted because of a lack of focus on playing as a team, especially to complete defensive duties.
A good draw, Tuesday evening, against highly ranked Marshall. 2-2. https://wsuraiders.com/news/2019/10...-15-marshall-to-double-ot-draw.aspx?path=msoc Several key players were rested in view of the critical further conference matches. Indeed, the name of the game is now a near perfect strike of wins, to firstly reach the conference tournament, then to win it. That's the only chance to be in the NCAA play-offs.
This evening, the start of the last miles. The start of the required winning streak. At Cleveland State. Tough away game. Let's see what metal the team is made with. In conference: CSU 3 2 0, 9 pts WSU 2 3 0 6 pts. A must win, I told you…..
The Raiders won 2-1. Hard fought victory, playing the last 20’ with ten players (my beloved son got his first red card of his whole football career!). CSU largely outshot them. So it seems they shown grit.
He just told us that he did a "Suarez". He hit the ball with the hand on the line, preventing a sure goal. Red card and penalty kick… Then the goal keeper saved the penalty kick and they won the match…. Like Uruguay against Ghana in 2010 WC….. Is my son a hero ? For the pleasure, please find the video of Suarez's handball and the penalty miss….: a great moment of football shithousery…
