R is for a clip from the original Muppet Show with Rita Moreno singing "Fever" backed by Animal on drums. It's a way sexier number than I recall from my days watching the show. She won the Emmy in her EGOT for hosting the show.
S is for "Sometimes" - Jonathan Edwards Probably best known for "Sunshine (go away today, I don't feel much like dancing...)"
T is for "That's Alright" - Elvis Presley As another Elvis Week has drawn to a close, I didn't realize that Elvis has now been dead as long as he was alive - 42 years.
U is for "Under My Thumb" from the Rolling Stones, shown here in 1966. And you could post a clip from their current tour in 2019 too. (I have always wondered what was written for lyrics in the segment where Jagger gasps. "Gasp-gasp?" "{Insert noise here}?" ""Breathe loudly?")
W is for Bob Marley and the Wailers, whose song "Hooligans" is covered here by the Moscow Ska Orchestra, AKA the Skatholics.
Xalam- Doley I apologize deeply for the overly celebratory sound here, but it gets y'all thru the X...
A thought: I'm not sure how realistic this is, but let's try just posting videos from local artists. A is for Alice Hasen (Memphis) - "Boots + Cats" (Studio version is on her Album, Violintro, released this week) This was down the street from me.....how the hell did I not know this was going on?!? This performance was in the parking area of Shangra La Records - they occasionally have local artists set up and play.
B is for Tony Manard and the Big Ole Band - "Fool From Memphis" from the album, Thanks Y'all. Some cool shots of Memphis. EDIT: Just realized the aforementioned Alice Hasen plays fiddle and adds vocals.
Yeah, I'd say he's got some choices there that the rest of us don't... North Alabama represen 'in Space Camp @Len, this ain't gonna work. I feel unclean just posting that garbage...
Sorry, It was just a thought; was looking for a different twist this go-round. No problems ending it here. I'll probably carry on, though.
I'll give it as many tries as I can, I guess. D is for Donna Summer MacArthur Park Donna wasn't local, of course, but her percussionist (@ 2:59) is. Darrell Tibbs was my HS drumline's section leader when I was a freshman. He toured with her from somewhere in the late 80s until her death.
E is for Benjamin Jacobs-El The Slide Hampton Octet, live in Paris, 1962 Mr. Benny (soloing on trombome @ 3:20) lives here now, and I've had the honor of playing several gigs with him. He's mostly a pianist now due to old age.
F is for "For Today" - Kirk Smithhart He doesn't perform much anymore; in fact, the last time I'm aware of him performing was about three years ago in a small restaurant in front of about a dozen people - and I think we were the only ones there specifically to see him. I talked with him during a break; he said with marriage, kids, bills, ya gotta make real money. Too bad.
I'm Gonna Getcha Good- Shania Twain Like I said, we don't have any famous bands, but we have a few sidemen, so I'll use that as a cheat. You can see drummer J.D. Blair @ 2:58
