And with that win and +3 GD added, they climb into Europa League territory right above Arsenal, and Tammy becomes the Top Scorer in the Premiership above Aguero with 7 goals.
Reminds me of when, many years ago, someone criticized Cris Carter for "only" catching touchdowns. For years afterwards, "ALL HE DOES IS CATCH TOUCHDOWNS" was the catchphrase for Cris Carter.
That’s one of those misleading stories. It’s what Buddy Ryan said when he released CC, true enough. The REAL reason he released him was that Carter had a serious cocaine problem at the time. He got sober and went on to a Hall career. It was cool of Ryan to not publicize Cris’ problems at the time.
And now after this game they are tied on points with 3rd place Tottenham, although it's way too early in the season to draw too many conclusions from the standings which can still swing wildly from day to day with so few points separating teams. More importantly, though, your point seems to be that it is reasonable to expect Wolves to drop from 7th last season to 18th-20th this season because Chelsea's similar drop in form this season shows that it is possible. However, the person you were responding to noted that Wolves have "lost no critical parts of their squad." Chelsea, on the other hand, just lost their 4 time Player of the Year, as well as their manager. So if Chelsea did drop significantly, I would be a lot less surprised.
Huh. Didn't know that. I never really assumed that was Buddy's reason. I did thoroughly enjoy the many years of "ALL HE DOES IS CATCH TOUCHDOWNS" long after I forgot that Buddy Ryan was the one who said it.
Wolves had a really good run last season, no doubt. They don't have the talents to be a mid table team, I expect them to drop down to the relegation zone where they belong. Of course, we each have our own opinions. Agree to disagree.
Pulisic better take his next chance. Say Hudson-Odoi & Loftus-Cheek return, one of Pedro/Willian pick up form and you're suddenly on the fringes of the team. Chelsea will be in for Sancho, possibly Dembélé next summer as well so this is a crucial season for him if he wants to remain a starter.
I can't say that I'm soured on Pulisic, but I am concerned that he hasn't made more progress in ironing out some of his deficiencies. Those deficiencies include lack of positional awareness, esp. defensively, and indecisiveness on offense. I just hope Lampard and staff can help him improve in these areas.
Watch his all touched videos from the game away to Real Madrid, you’ll see how far he’s come in those regards. Defensively he’s always been an above average winger who works hard.
Yes, he has improved, but still has a way to go. He has to prove that he can be reliably effective for 90 minutes. He's still a bit behind where he needs to be with his speed of thought. I see far too many instances where he's on the ball and I sense some slight hesitancy. I'm sure he goes over this in training, and maybe we'll just have to wait for this part of his game to develop.
Calling them a relegation team is beyond stupid. They’ve had a tough match in every fixture so far. They are not a relegation team.
I agree with this sentiment. Clock is ticking. Abraham might be out against Valencia which means Giroud. He can be very good in the air, loves to make that near post run for flicks on goal. He has very decent touch in tight spaces. I hope he and CP can find some combo play.
Watching this Chelsea team reminds me of Dortmund last few seasons. They can score goals, yet keep giving them away late. If Lampard can get this defense to tighten up, they're def. in competition for top 4.
