Last-minute Dusseldorf free kick from 20 yards goes straight into the wall.

    FT: Dusseldorf 1 - 1 Wolfsburg

Fun first half followed by a pretty disjointed second half. Steffen did well when called upon, making 5 saves, controlling his penalty area well, and with one exception, distributing pretty well.

A draw is a decent result for Dusseldorf, and it was a good performance from Steffen.

They had 5 last season, so don't hold your breath waiting for one. :p

Brooks or no, Wolfsburg are pretty good this year. It's a decent result for Dusseldorf.

Um, 5 hole? Can't completely let Steffen off getting beat 5 hole. Anywhere else in the goal that's on the LB, but a shot directly at the GK? I'm thinking that's probably something he should have saved.

A first time shot by a wide-open forward in front of goal, from a cross requiring the goalkeeper to be moving as the shot is taken. It's different from a 1v1 that goes straight at him. Expecting a save on that sort of shot is extremely unrealistic, regardless of who the goalkeeper is.

Nope, that shot placed anywhere other than directly at the keeper I'd agree with you, no chance. But when it's fired right at Steffen? I would wager a guess that he is pretty upset with himself for getting beaten through the wickets. He's not completely at fault given the guy shooting is wide open in the middle of the box (like Chicharito's goal the other night), but had Chicharito headed that down and at Steffen's legs, I would be pretty ticked had it gone in through the 5 hole. Happens to the best of them a time or two, but you don't eliminate blame from the keeper all the same.
