    We did not need sporting director because Perez got magic mirror to spot talent .

    Kante for me is France's MVP. He might work in a 442.

    I'm not sure I like him if he's replacing Kroos or Modric in a 433.

    He was available a few years ago for a reasonable fee, great player but unless you were replacing Casemiro (we aren't) it makes little sense.

    Kante is a rare character in modern era. His agent tried to negotiate a great deal with PSG, but he blocked it and renewed with Chelsea without much bargaining. With a contract until 2023, he's spending the rest of his prime at Chelsea.

    There's a lot of expectations around Florentino from Benfica. Could be a future target. He's young enough to be a starter after few years when Case gets older.

    I like Casemiro more. We just need a decent backup for him, no need to bring in someone to fight for a starting role. Do that to Kroos instead.

    Kante's making £300 k a week mate. That's a lot of money for a defensive midfielder even for the PL.

    For what Kante brings to the table that salary is worth it. We don't need him unless we play a 3-4-3 or a 4-2-3-1.

    Not sure we need Kante.

    Next season I'd:

    - Bring back and commit to Ceballos and Odegaard as the center pieces;

    - Sign a B2B...really liking what I've seen from Kai Havertz...only 20/21 yrs old...great engine...knack for goals..very tactically astute (forget this Pogba business....not worth the price);

    - Get another DM that's more a bit more "ball-centric" than Casemiro like Marc Roca;

    Let go of 2 out of these 3 (Kroos/Isco/Modric) and that's it.

    Brand new young and hungry midfield without breaking the bank.

    Havertz and Roca can probably be bought for like 120m-130m.

    Of course I'm saying all this thinking there's no chance we can sign KDB...otherwise...first choice for me.

    Save the cash for Mbappe/other major attacking talent.

    Fair enough. Just throwing some random thoughts out there since midfield seems to be the big topic.

    Of course, but isnt that the point of this thread?

    I'm 100% on the Ceballos train. I think if he keeps this level up he will come back and replace Modric.

    Fede deserves his shot as the third mid, but if he falters I'd definitely go for Roca first.

    Bring Odegaard back if he keeps it up. If not let him have another year and consider Pogba again. His price should be more reasonable given his contract situation. However, going for him would be dependent on Mbappe not being available.

    This is a major ********up. Did we not communicate with them properly before sending him there? You would expect to esp after what happened last season.

    Nobody cares about the player's minutes. Nobody will do you no favours, this isn't the early 2000s. Unless it's an absolutely generational talent that elevates the team, or there is a buyout clause, your young player is warming the bench something fierce. I'm also kind of thinking Mallorca partly took Kubo for media interest and attention but we'll see.

    Even within the team, veteran players that are feeding a family won't stand for some teenager on loan with a 4 mil. contract take away their minutes and their means of feeding their family. As a young player you're f*cked unless you're going to a place known for promoting youth like Sevilla.

    A conversation needs to be had between the club loaning the player, the club taking him on loan and the manager of said club.

    To come out and say he’s only going to get cup minutes this early into the season shows that Lunin was never part of their first team plans.

    This is on us, again. 2 years wasted.

    But what do we do with him if we recall him, it will be worse for him here, he’d be at best third choice no?, plus I don’t know about all the homegrown player rules, would they affect him and us?, unless we could recall him and loan him out to another team that would actually play him ( which I doubt) his situation is a rubbish one all around, no hope for him again this season, as noted already, two seasons wasted sitting on benches

    Next 2 summer windows are so crucial. Ramos 33yo, Modrić 34 yo, Marcelo 31, Bale 30.

    For a CB there's no obvious solution atm since de Light & Hermoso changed clubs. Marquinhos' deal runs out in 2022. Skriniar is an interesting option. Romagnoli from Milan and Konaté from Leipzig too.

    For middlefield it's Pogba, Odeegard and Roca imo.

    For up-top it's Jaden Sancho for RW and Mbappe in 2021 on last year or 2022 on free to replace Benz.

    RM 2020/2021:
    Hazard-Benzema-Sancho
    Kroos-Casemiro-Pogba

    RM 2021/2022:
    Hazard-Mbappe-Sancho
    Pogba-Casemiro-Odeegard
    Mendy-Militao-Varane-Hakimi
