That's the entire point of a friendly like this. To play the strategy against a difficult matchup to learn and improve. But that process is undermined when Araujo is making plays that professionals shouldn't be making.
Nestor Araujo has surpassed Israel Lopez against South Africa in the 2005 game as the worst game I have ever seen from a Mexican NT player. Far gone. He single handily gave Argentina 3 goals. He fvcked the game for Mexico completely with his bullshit. Historically bad and after the Gold Cup benching, wouldn't be surprised if he's gone.
This is what separates the big boys with the little ones. A taste of reality once again for Mexico..........as good we think we are, were nothing in the international state with those bigger boys.
Pretty understandable that Araujo will be used as the scapegoat. Which to be fair jamás había visto un central verse tan pendejo. Can't play vs a much superior group of players like they're the USA. If Sweden could make us look bad, not surprised one of the best teams in the world can also play conservatively and make us look worse.
Argentina is schooling us on how to defend and counter a reckless team like Mexico. Too many players are bombing forward and forgetting that they have to defend as well. Herrera, Layun, and Alvarez have been terrible since they are not being discipline with their position but bombing forward all at the same time. Araujo and Salcedo are both overrated but they are being exposed by the midfield. Both Araujo and Salcedo are decent defenders but people want to put all the blame on them when our midfield is just as bad.
History of the Mexican national team (in a nutshell). -have very flashy wingers capable of creating chances out of nowhere. Looks dangerous -a stable striker -ok midfield -defense that lets the opposing team score a goal out of literally effing nowhere via some sort of miscommunication/disorganization -team moral drops -mental breakdown -loss
I’m honestly not arsed at all by this. We learn more from these “disaster” friendlies than anything else. I trust Tata to learn from what he’s seen. The problem with that 7-0 a year ago is that a couple of weeks before that fiasco during a friendly, chile was similarly running circles around Mex and somehow managed to lose 1-0. The group acted like nothing was wrong and received what was coming to them in an official competition.
The America kid impressed me with his speed and aggressive playing style, sub him in. Layun was a good player for us, but his time has come.
It's not only Araujo, the ball doesn't get from the Argentine goalie/defense to the Lautauro on its own. No mark, too much space for Argentine attack (bring Mex defense forward), mid/forward for Mexico lack an idea on what to do on the last 3rd.
