I just threw up in my mouth.

I’d put any of Morales, Weston or Pomykal as a deep lying playmaker over Trapp even if we insist on having one.

If there’s one thing for us to accomplish in the fall, it is to get as much familiarity between Adams, Pulisic, Weston and Brooks. Given that Tyler is missing we should plug someone in who is as close to his style as possible and that’s not Trapp at all.

I'd rather the position be gotten rid of altogether.

Some guys who defend Berhalter said he has a system and want to play nice soccer.

F**k it! I have a genius tactical system when I play football manager and I want to play nice ball too.

    - Tata Martino in 7 career meetings with Gregg Berhalter: 6 wins and a draw, 14 goals scored, 2 conceded

    - Mexico has only trailed for 14 minutes under Martino.

Remember when US Soccer refused to even approach Tata Martino regarding the USMNT coaching job, because “he doesn’t speak English well enough”?

That the Crew didn't play this way under Berhalter would suggest that The System was mandated from above rather than initiated by the coach. Ernst Tanner, as sporting director of The Union, has huge input in the system the team employs.

I’m looking forward to hearing gogorath and other Berhalter defenders talk about how his philosophy is playing out. Mahtzo1 has been a wait-and-see poster so I’d also like to see his take

    Here’s a couple of guesses:

    - players aren’t good enough (but we should still build a system around possession!)
    - we need Bradley!
    - we need adams and brooks
    - no shame in losing to Mexico, they’re great!
    - what are you complaining about? He started Morales and Dest

Yep they’ve really ramped up the “players are bad” narrative. Mostly going after our best, because they know our worst players are also GGG’s pets.

Isn’t it interesting how we all thought Pulisic was great before Gregg was hired. Isn’t it interesting how steffen puts in MOTM performances in Germany but looks terrible under Gregg. Isn’t it interesting that McKennie is trusted and reliable in Germany but struggles here, having to play 1.5 positions in order to support Trapp/Bradley.

Then these posters say things like “wow you really think these games are Zardes/Trapp/Bradley’s fault?”

Giving credit to them for invisibility, and criticizing other players for not being able to make up for their absence.

I think you’re talking about superdave here. In his defense, he’s no fan of Berhalter at the moment. He nailed the analysis that Berhalter doesn’t take what our opposition gives us but rather forces a style that the other team is anticipating. Unsurprisingly, we don’t have the skill to pull it off.

Trapp is SOO BAD. We play with ten men against any above average opponent when he’s on he field. Zardes is bad, but in a lovable way that is at least endearing and sometimes results in random chance goals for us. How can any manager keep playing those two?

THIS. Not only that, but the stifling of creativity it brings trying to just get the ball into the midfield.

I just don't see much in the way of coherent strategy. Last night, the team consistently chose to play it safe, which led to a lot of backpasses. And Mexico smartly filled in every time the ball was played back, always marking a man, giving Zimmerman and Steffen no outlets. The fact that Zimmerman and Steffen cannot pick out anyone on a long pass only adds to the futility. What really did it for me though, is that playing short on restarts, or resets of play, became a pattern that simply added to this misery of constantly playing on the back foot. There was little movement to give an outlet, and no credible midfield outlet, someone like Tyler Adams (or Darlington Nagbe, or...), who can actually receive the ball and turn up the middle to escape. Actually, Lletget was instantly better at connection with the defense. It was 90 minutes of repeatedly trying what wasn't working, over and over, sheer madness.

This is a problem that is all down to the coach. Poor tactics and personnel choices, compounded with a refusal to make adaptations during the match.

I don't see how any credible journalist can give Berhalter more than 1/10, or grade of F. He started two d-mids and still couldn't get his team to maintain possession.

Tata plays chess while Berhalter is playing some child version of checkers right now.

His Atlanta United style of play would have fit this group of American players really well, but US Soccer felt someone who spoke ‘Merican but was a .500 MLS coach was the right guy.

I wish I was in a position like Earnie Stewart where I could f^^^ up so spectacularly and still keep getting promoted.

Thats the main thing. How can you be this bad and still have your job. Something like this pisses me off..This is not only in soccer but alot of our profession as well. I mean, what do we tell our kids, work hard go to school, try your best. It didn't matter. Just not fair.

The more I watch the U.S. under Berhalter, the more convinced I am that hiring him was a huge mistake. The fact that our guys had so much trouble passing out of the back and kept turning the ball over time and time again, and never changed tactics was mind boggling to me. How can an idiot like me see this, but the leader of the National team can't? That's seriously concerning.

Also, when I saw Zardes in the starting lineup, I said GGG needs to go just for that. What does he see in him that no one else on the planet sees? The guy is simply not National Team material....at all.

    Reminds me of 2 things:

    1) Marco Silva and Everton at the beginning of last season. Silva wanted to play out of the back but Pickford and the CBs just weren’t up to it. They were giving the ball away constantly and giving up horrendous goals. Halfway thru season ( far too long), Silva said f—- it, Pickford goes long pretty much long all he time now, they press to win back in opponents’ half and results have been better.

    2) Pep wouldn’t be able to be Pep without the best talent in whatever league he’s in. As someone said earlier, GB’s tactics are for a team with clearly superior talent. There’s a reason that countries don’t play this way—lack of training time and talent levels are much tighter amongst the top tier.

Tata was doomed when USSF realized that Martino was incapable of saying something simple in English; like "Jay Berhalter is my Brother!"......

    here
Where's the guy who said Roberto Martinez wasn't good enough LOLOLOLOL!

I bet the fan base would trade GB for Big Sam in a heartbeat. (Or, Sarachan!)

At this point, there are two questions:
    1) how far into WC qualifying does Berhalter get fired?
    2) what MLS toady does the Fed replace him with.

I've always liked what I've seen of GB as a person. But, this is ridiculous.

If I'm Canada and Cuba, I'm loving my chances in the upcoming matches. You wait until we back pass to the keeper, then push all 10 field players up, so that no one is behind Zardes.

With the foreknowledge that our players are not allowed to pass the ball behind the defense if we're in our defensive end, or make a pass that's longer than 25 yards or so, *any* team in the world has a fighting chance against us.

To be fair the US isn’t in the same stratosphere as Belgium in terms of talent, but yes Martinez is a much better coach than Berhalter. However, Martinez gets away with his system because of the talent available.

This whole mess has a lot to do with the incestuous relationship between the USSF SUM and MLS.

Sunil Gulati and now Cordeiro? I knew more at the age of 8 then either of these two clowns ever did.

What’s worse they are shit at business management, which is what they are supposed to be great at...

If Earnie Stewart had any competence in his job now that he oversees both the men's and women's programs (still boggles my mind how someone SO BAD at his job keeps getting promoted), he'd set up a meeting with Berhalter and Jill Ellis by Sunday so Ellis could explain to him how she used Julie Ertz as her #6 and to end the meeting by telling Berhalter "This is how you need to use your CDM - particularly when Tyler Adams is fully fit".

For all of the stick some have given Ellis, she coaches circles around Berhalter tactially. One of those moves was being able to see how Ertz was better served as a CDM than as a (admittedly very, very good) center back.

People often say we need a coach that understands the American player, so we need an American coach. Yet somehow our American coach doesn't understand that the American player pool cannot play out of the back under tight pressure.
