Glad he scored but it doesn't mean much yet. If I see him starting the next one too, then it's time to reconsider Cowfield.

The manager changed the whole lineup to suit him, ffs. They couldn't play him last year because he wasn't ready to fit into the 433 that had them near Europe level. This year they brought him in at the best moment, imo.

The guy who screwed him up was Berhalter because he needs more reps just playing real games and he could have had that in Gold Cup. On the plus side, he was healthy to start the season.

So that just leaves Osako, Fullkrug, Pizarro and Eggstein alongside Sargent right? If he's not starting, he'll be a super-sub.

No, Bartels, J. Eggestein and Harnik can play wide as well. Bremen is playing Osako in the middle who is slightly behind 2 forwards who are expected to be flexible. This has nothing to do with Sargent and more with the opponents' defenders abilities and their tactical formations.

Offense has actually worked reasonably well in the three games so far and they should have scored a lot more yesterday. It's the defense that has looked really shaky but my hope is that this will get better when Langkamp, Augustinsson, Vejlkovic, and Bargfrede return.

Bremen is the quintessential mid-table team, with no greater aspirations than remaining a mid-table team, with fans happy that it's a mid-table team, and getting set up to once again finish right below the Europa berths.

Sargent at home vs. relegation fave Augsburg was typical, keeping the 433 and playing it safe at home. The red card really helped.

But they played a 442 with Sargent and Fullkrug staying very narrow.

They played (started) Josh on the right wing in the only game he started last season when he was panned and didn't get another start. They could have plugged him in to Rashica's spot but didn't. They also could have used him as a sole 9 center forward but didn't.

To summarize the above I economized and said that they changed their set up for him. That will not happen when he shows up for Berhalter's camp but that's for another thread. I was actually addressing Duke's misapprehension of the treatment Josh gets from his club coach.

The Bremen fans I know are not happy with being a mid table team, they really want to play in Europa League. I seriously doubt club management is also content that they missed out on Europa League but, hey, avoided relegation.

That dude just makes up stuff and then if you call him out, claims he wasn't paying attention and just read a box score. Best to ignore him

Why the disappointment? The last time they made the Europa was back when we were young.

No, they played a 433 with Osako slightly behind the other two forwards, Sargent and Fullkrug, exactly as the Green-White guy explained above.

Yuka Osako is a forward, not a midfielder, that's why the formation used is classified as a 433. How about learning a bit before commenting?

I just hope that the wonder goal will not be the highlight of Josh's career.

Whether it’s a 4-3-3 or a 4-4-2 depends on where you draw the line between offensive midfield and forward zones. Some news outlets had Osako categorized as a midfielder for the game. It doesn’t really matter. What matters is that Osako played behind Füllkrug and Sargent.

It‘ll be interesting to see how the acquisition of Leonardo Bittencourt affects Sargent‘s role. Once he‘s fully on board and once Rashica and Bartels are healthy again I think we‘ll see either Sargent or Füllkrug starting, but not both.

FWIW (and I don't think very much - the "numbers" game of footie line-ups is a dull tool on its best day) Bundesliga.com has it as a 4-3-1-2
    Bremen:Pavlenka – Gebre Selassie, Lang, Moisander (c), Friedl – M. Eggestein, Sahin, Klaassen – Osako (Groß, 90+1') – Sargent (Pizarro, 82'), Füllkrug (Harnik, 87')

Why not? It was a beauty and if Sarge never scores a better one, it doesn't matter as long as he keeps on scoring. In fact, every other one can go in off his ass for all I care.

why would it? He's only 19. Even if he spends his entire career as a super-sub at Bremen, that can't be the worst thing.
