Not arguing for the sake of it, i just don't agree with your earlier assessment of him being "wasted" on the flank that's all, especially when he's shown great potential there both at his previous club and with Japan.
Kubo is so talented that he'd be able to seamlessly rotate between the midfield and the flank until he eventually settle for the latter later in his career, like Bernado Silva at City who is a very similar player.
