The problem is it's so damn late in the window, that our options have be reduced to backups from rich clubs. Finding quality starting CB's is a difficult task in general, but this is reaching mission impossible levels. Petrachi obviously wants a proven and clear upgrade (which we desperately need), but I don't think it's going to happen.

He either needs to overpay for the likes of Rugani/Lovren, take a gamble on someone like Rojo on loan, buy a CB from outside the top 5 leagues, or buy another young CB and hope he can contribute immediately.

Finding quality prime CB's ain't easy, which I was trying to tell y'all but some were too busy calling Manolas "Manolol".

I don't believe it is easy, but surely we have scouts and/or a data team scouring the continent looking for talent. This is work done throughout the whole year, not just during the transfer window. I am just flabbergasted that these are literally our only options.

Man i really wanted him like 5 years ago, and now hes 30. Like Yarmolenko, he has done basically nothing all these years.

Of course we do, but we also have a new DoF and a new manager, which likely means alot of the players we had profiled as targets are no longer players we're interested in. Sure, Fonseca and EDF both play with high-lines, but that's only one element. There's likely been a big philosophical shift in how we identify talent now, which will need time to cultivate.

It's obvious Petrachi wants a guy who's experienced, played high-level football in a top league and fits Fonseca's football. That's why the list is so small. He wants a sure thing, and I don't think he's going to be able to get it.

The Toby shit was infuriating because I knew it was never going to happen.

If only we could sign 2 new central defenders. :(The turkish guy is a nobody. Fazio is ready for retirement and Juan Jesus has always been a disaster. Mancini has potential but I'm not sure he's ready.

I'd comment on the whole notion about "acclimation" aside of this particular situation. In my opinion if a player is good enough to perform, he should be able to perform as soon as he's bought.

Juve didn't acclimate C. Ronaldo. Inter won't be acclimating their new expensive guys. You buy someone, you start them up and see what they do.

In today's football where it's a weekly occurrence for teams to travel to another part of the continent and be expected to perform on par with the local teams the argument about acclimation is only valid when there's a language barrier and the player in question won't be able to perform to his full capacity if he cannot speak fluently, which shouldn't be the case for a defender who can learn the basic words in a few days and rely on Under to translate anything complex in set pieces.

It certainly feels like 90% of the players we buy need 5 seasons to acclimate to Italy's quite pleasant weather conditions. At some point we have to admit that it's not acclimation that hampers us, it's the inexperience or the incompetence of the guys we buy.

I wonder why guys like De Rossi would sign for a team in the first day and be starters in the next, despite moving to the other side of the world. It's because the team buying them pays for a player acclimated to football adversity and high level competition and needs not acquire it from scratch.

Just once I'd like for us to sell someone on loan with an obligation to sign.

After all this trouble with defenders, I have now changed my mind.

    Bring in the Lovren.

Manolol makes the same mistake Mancini made all the time, losing his man. We need TWO starting calibre CBs really. Waiting on Icardi-Higgy-Dzeko triangle hindered our plan, I’m assuming. Because if the plan was to always extend Dzeko, I think we would have bought a better CB by now.
