And we paid it because we thought he was worth it. The price difference is almost 10x dude.

That was after we signed him, and the hype was built up after he played his debut season with us. This is the guy who trained with us during preseason fully expecting to go out on loan again at 21, vs. VJ who we called over to the first team a season earlier than his loan termination at 18.

 

Asensio came from Segunda and Barca refused to pay 3 ME for him. There was no hype until we loaned him to Espanyol in La Liga where he had a good season. High expectations came during his first season at RM.

We've been bargain hunting since 2014, signing nobody except if at massively discounted prices, yet we then go throw 40M at a 16 year old, and get this, face competition from others.

Theo was overpriced, Illaremendi was overpriced, Coentrao was overpriced, but a 10x difference in price is not overpriced, its a complete different level of expectations. Thats like saying we paid 100M for Ronaldo because of the EPL hype, vs 25M for Di Maria who was a bargain.

 

You forgot the x5 or x10 factor for him being Brazilian. If he was European his price tag would have been 5 to 10m which is how much we paid for Odegaard (~4M)

Brazilian players are all overpriced because agents want to make you think the best talents would become your next Ronaldo/Ronaldihno/Neymar.
If every fan out there believe this is what will actually end up happening with these players (because we paid $$$$) then I don’t know what to say to you.

In comparison look at Felix .. no one knew about him when he was in the juvenile divisions and look at him now, much better and polished than Vini.

 

You do realize VJ and Rodrygo arent the first Brazilians youngsters we have signed? Casemiro, Abner, Augusto Galvan, and Willian Jose are all Brazilians who came for cheap.

I mean, thats the perfect counter example to your point, a European with massive potential signed for a fee reflecting those expectations.

 

Felix went for 120M at 18 after one professional season in european football and scoring a lot of goals for Benfica.

The comparison with Vini would have been how much he would have cost two years ago before making the jump to professional football, which is the state Vini was in when we signed him.

I dont know those Brazilians you mentioned, only Casemiro of course.. were they all forwards?

If people were able to leave out the price tags, just for a second, these discussions about rating players and comparisons against other players would be more objective with a focus around performance in a more leveled playing field.
At the end of the day every Real Madrid player needs to be top and deliver top performances in order to justify their stay with the club.. if you are aiming for a starter role at least. That to me should be the measuring stick (top level performance) and not the player’s price tag because domestic/castilla players will obviously cost much less.

Anyways, I don't believe that PSG offered us Neymar for VJ + 90 million. Look at what they are demanding from Barcelona (100 ME + Dembele and Semedo).

Barcelona wants to pay 40 million up front...how are they gonna replace Neymar with 40 million? PSG has always wanted the cash up front. It's 100 million and Semedo and Dembele or nothing. Barcelona will return empty handed again. It's not a coincidence that PSG leaked their counter offer before Barcelona made their little public spectacle about flying to Paris and their offer.

He says at the end of the day the club has the last word with respect to Neymar.. if they don’t receive the money they ask there is not much Ney can do.. he says the president has the last word and if they dont receive what they ask for it would be hard to let him go.
