Incredible atmosphere in sections 212-215 tonight. A lot of fun. 3-1 victory. “This is our house!” “Beat the Traffic!” and “You’re Not Singing Over There!” Glad to have been a part of it.
A radio station app. Yeesh. It would be nice if the goddamn team had a network even 60% as large as the Buckeyes. I never have to download a ********ing app to listen to the Buckeyes.
Sad thing is, I think the days of sports teams having an extensive radio network are a thing of the past. I can remember when you could turn on the radio and have live sports on multiple stations, and for major sports, you could find local stations across the state that would carry the games of the team in their market area. Unfortunately, most of those radio stations would now rather carry syndicated sports talk from Jim Rome wannabes instead of live sports. This is especially true now that a lot of local sports stations are affiliated with ESPN Radio. It's probably easier for sports teams to have one local radio partner and just stream that feed over the internet.
It wasn't *that* long ago when we were on The Zone, was it? The radio situation is finally back to where it should be after that simulcast mess. I've got my eye on the dates that are shared with OSU football. That will be the real test.
If someone listens over-the-air to an affiliate, would that affect the flagship's ratings at all? If you're the flagship station, would you rather them listen to your feed online or to an affiliate? For example, would Jim Rome rather the listener tune in to Columbus FM radio or the official Jim Rome app?
Probably depends on revenue sharing of adverts sold or how big of a fee Rome gets for giving permission to air his show.
In the app. Ratings for radio are far less precise than tv. Apps allow stations to individually identify listeners and tailor ads. This internet advertising racket is actually working pretty well for many companies (except the news industry). I've got a lawyer friend who works the deals for Clear Channel corporate. I'll ask him.
Sadly, you can’t even stream games on your phone (except Ohio State through the 97.1 app). Examples—now that there is no 105.7 the Zone, Cbus has no Indians affiliate. The closest one is in Delaware, and the radio reception is spotty. I tried to go to the Delaware station’s website to stream games, and they have alternate programming on their stream. Same thing with WTAM’s stream when the Tribe is playing. WLW’s stream had a rebroadcast of Bill Cunningham last time I tried to stream during a Reds game. Probably some “broadcasting rights” legality thing. But to a listener, it seems like they aren’t keeping up with the times and to listener’s preferences. Eventually it could be the end of the “_______ ________ Radio Network.”
Totally not true but he shitted on us for 2 seasons he looks like a totally different player. Now he always hustled and fell down a lot , drew fouls etc..: but in the final 3rd he was trash. At his position we need production. I still would not offer him a long term contract. Not just his age but because he was not productive. Previously i would offer him very low salary at this point as long as he is not a DP. He has this year consistency and stepped up to be a leader if Trapp was gone I would vote him Captain
You can thank MLB Advanced Media for that. You used to be able to stream MLB games over the internet, but then they started offering all games streaming for free through the MLB app. Then they decided that, if you want to stream the radio feed, you had to upgrade to the premium version of the app. Now I think they charge you an annual subscription. But once MLB started charging for access to the audio feed, all the radio stations had to blackout their audio streams and air alternate content during the games.
Good win. Zardes, Room, Trapp, Mensah, and Santos all had good games. Crognale shows once again why I think he should be in the USL. I can't wait to have Lalas back. A Lalas/Mensah CB pairing could be deadly. Mokhtar hasn't done if for me yet but he may need some time. I think in the off season we need to find a #10. Santos has been good centrally but he's not creative enough to get others involved. I do think he's done enough to get re-signed.
I feel like Mokhtar is still trying to get on the same page as everyone else. There are some things he does which are nice, other things he does which would be really good but he has to stop because no one is making the run he thought, and then there are other times I wondered why he did what he did. And this is weird for me to say but... I kind of would like to see Santos as a second forward in a 4-4-2 for a couple of games. Have Zardes be the target forward with Santos using his speed to pull defenders away from Gyasi and/or make quick runs behind the defense's line.
Baseball has it's own pay audio service, Gameday Audio. That's why. I used to be able to listen to Phillies games at night due to the old WCAU's (1210) being a "clear channel" station. But they went to FM. So it's been a few years (though once HoF broadcaster Harry Kalas passed, it wasn't the same).
