It's not amazing nor surprising. No one is hiding the fact that Zidane doesn't want him. When a coach doesn't want a player on the team then he shouldn't be any substitution. I would surprised if he would play. I don't care about Zidane, I'm beyond that. I just worried that James will be in a lousy form un his most important year with National Team.

Maybe Florentino is mentally prepared to fire Zidane, so in his mind James might have a chance to play later this season, so he can continue to exploit the Colombian markets. When I checked the lineup, I saw Isco in the midfield, didn't see him on the bench, and immediately came here to post that exact sentiment. Shocked to see him starting on the wing. Crazy to think how he came to fame as an LW but he's barely played there for the past 6 years.
If I remember correctly he started both Isco and James together in the past and had decent results. Maybe he is like ah screw it, lets test it out again today and see if they can recreate some magic. Also James could have been working his arse off in practice and could have been rewarded. Who knows? Just glad to see him starting for Real Madrid again.

A decent first half for him considering he didn't participate in pre season. A typical Real madrid game: passing the ball, controlling the game with no risks. A bit boring.
