Two things I haven't seen in a while. A QB not afraid to throw a 50-50 ball now and then and a WR that goes up and gets the ball. Not saying those things will happen in the regular season, although I already know Case will throw his share of 50-50 balls.

Please tell me that they are just trying to show Eli "respect." The Giants organization continues to spiral into one of the worst run operations in the whole league. Trust me, I know what the signs look like.

    Preseason rant time.....

First, let me say that it's virtually impossible to judge any of the Redskins QBs right now with the play of the oline and WRs. The left side of the o-line when Case was in was getting blown up every drop back. He still made some good throws and decisions. I think he also had a WR drop a ball. With Dwayne, the second and third team o-lines were getting destroyed just like they did in Cleveland and there were a handful of drops. I couldn't get a good sample since it was difficult for either of them to make a throw. Case did not have an opportunity to drop back and launch it deep. Dwayne had about 3 opportunities with more playing time.

On Dwayne, last night and this morning, I see people already calling for him to have the starting job based on ONE PLAY. Yes, it was a nice play. He switched the protection, stepped up in the pocket in the face of pressure and dropped a deep dime for a TD. But we need to take the preseason at face value for what it is and nothing more than that. Just because he had one nice play does not mean he's ready for the starting job.

This reminds me of how people lost their mind over the Daniel Jones drive last week. Ryan Finley went 8/8 on with and versus 2nd stringers like Jones did for a TD drive on us. It doesn't mean he is going to be a good QB. Also, Eli playing bad in the preseason shouldn't have opened anyone's eyes. At this point, we know what Eli is. He's not going to magically light it up losing OBJ and getting Golden Tate after Week 4. That's what makes what Mara said recently so comical.

I am also seeing Kyler Murray is going to be a bust talk. Really? I am not even a fan of Kyler, but you still can't judge him off last night. RGIII didn't have a great preseason his rookie year. Once the regular season started, you saw what the Shanahans were scheming for him and we all know how that went. I am not saying Kyler will blow up like RGIII, but I am sure that's plenty we will not see till the regular season that Kliff Kingsbury will scheme up.

I don't mind Baker showing some swag, especially if he ends up backing it up. I do think he should have kept quiet about Daniel Jones. You aren't playing him this year and he really has nothing to do with you. Just say you have no opinion and keep it moving.

We need to get you on b4 the season to talk about the skins. Once the qb is named we should try to record after that.

Even as someone who isn’t sold on Jones, he has shown enough in the preseason to start over Eli. I just don’t think anyone has the balls in the organization to do it. Shurmur sounds like he wants to do it, but Mara is calling the shots.

My question about Jones during the season is going to be how is able to deal with pressure in the pocket and less vanilla looks. It seems every time he has been pressured this preseason, he has been sacked or fumbled the call. When he has had time, he has made good throws. He’s more athletic than Eli, so not sure what Eli is going to do at this point.

I'd say Wentz's health is also a question mark, but I agree that the Eagles are a notch above the rest.

Case was announced the starter. I'll see when I have some free time. My in-laws will be over here for a month starting tomorrow, so it might be a short notice if I can find some time.

As far as the fourth game in preseason goes, Haskins was good. The thing he needs to fix moving forward is his footwork, which is fixable. With the way this organization has treated other rookie QBs, having Case step into this situation rather than Haskins is the right move. The left side of the line is going to be a train wreck if Trent never comes back and these WRs are going to continue to drop balls and kill drives. Let Haskins work on what he needs to sharpen.

Based on the rumblings I have been hearing, it sounds like Josh Doctson might be among the cuts.

Early gut feel from me on the Philly game is that it will be a low scoring game, but still not a pretty one for the Redskins. I am not seeing this offense move the ball effectively in Week 1 vs that defense. I think Wentz will have enough rust and the Redskins D will have enough bite to keep the score low, but eventually win.

Since I haven't found time to make a podcast appearance, I want to go on record with my thoughts and analysis on the Skins this year before the opener.

    Quarterbacks
    • Case will be serviceable. Obviously, he is going to need help around him. He isn't the type of QB that wins games due to mainly his play.
    • Unless the season starts going downhill, I am fine on waiting the whole year for Dwayne. I'd honestly give Case 7-8 games even if we struggle before seeing Dwayne.
    • If we see Colt at all this year, there's no reason to continue with my analysis.
    Runningbacks
    • Not much to say here that isn't already obvious. Guice, if he stays healthy, will get the bulk of the work. We should be leaning on the running game, especially with our receiving options and questions on the left side of our line. AP comes in fresh and gives Guice a breather. I wouldn't even take Guice out on third down. I'd take Chris Thompson he stick him out wide and have both of them on the field.
    Wide Receivers
    • McLaurin never jumped off the screen when I watched OSU last year. Campbell was the guy I liked. Internally (not the fan base), they seem to be high on him. He was one of the reasons why Doctson was cut. We didn't really get to see him in the preseason, so I don't have any feel for what he will do.
    • Paul Richardson is what he is. I don't see how he's going to be a better deep threat here than at Seattle. I hope a young receiver develops throughout the year and he gets phased out.
    • Trey Quinn should be solid in the slot, but we barely saw him play last year.
    • The rest of the WRs are young and unproven. I have to hope that someone likes Harmon comes on midway through the season.
    Tight End
    • The good news -- Jordan Reed is healthy from shoulders to toe, unlike last year, which affected his performance. The bad news -- he had a concussion in the preseason, which he has a long history of in the NFL, and will affect his availability.
    • Vernon Davis is as good as it gets when it comes to older TE receiving options. I am just tired of relying on him so damn much. This is a position group that has been ignored way too long in the draft and should have been addressed. It needs to be addressed in next year's draft.
    O-Line
    • I am not worried about the right side of the line. The center position is alright, average at worst.
    • The left side will be a train wreck if Trent doesn't come back. I have no faith in Donald Penn. Ereck Flowers wasn't an absolute mess at left guard in the preseason like he has been at left tackle throughout his career, but he also wasn't good. Once again, we are hoping Wes Martin develops and can fill in sooner rather than later. I am not sure if Geron Christian is any better than Donald Penn, so I really have no hope there if Trent isn't back.

    D-Line
    • Allen had his rookie year cut short and basically had a rookie year last season. Payne was a rookie last season. I expect a step forward this season and an improvement in one of the stronger areas on our team.
    • Depth is actually pretty good here. One of the deepest position groups on the team, if not the deepest.
    OLBs
    • Kerrigan is Kerrigan. He started off slow last season, so that may happen this year. I think he is starting to get close to slowing down some and considering he is reliant on his effort and motor, that will hurt his game.
    • Anderson is going to be the starter on the other side, but I don't expect him to out snap Sweat. Sweat is definitely a player to watch as his impact will tell you how good this D can be.
    • McKinzy was getting some hype in the preseason. I am not buying into it. He's a speed rusher, so someone to also watch on the D on passing downs.
    ILBs
    • Before Foster's injury, I was looking forward to seeing Shaun Dion Hamilton or Cole Holcomb step in and fill the other ILB spot. One of them will be starting now, but they aren't going to have much leeway playing next to Bostic.
    • Never saw Jon Bostic as starting material. I've actually had to hear people say that he is going to be good this season. I am not banking on it.
    Corners
    • My gut feeling says Josh Norman will have a good season -- better than his last 2. It won't be an elite corner season, but he will look better.
    • Quinton Dunbar will start opposite him. He was solid last year.
    • Moreau has started the year hurt. The biggest training camp and offseason buzz surrounded Jimmy Moreland. He's an undersized corner that has a knack of making plays on the ball. I think he will see some time in the slot. I guess we will find out if he is for real or not. A player to watch.
    Safety
    • I expect Landon Collins to be better than last season with the Giants. I expect a playmaker that is always around the ball.
    • Looks like Nicholson will get another shot to start. Not sure what to really expect from him, but the depth at safety isn't very good, so he has no reason not to hold onto the job unless we make a move like last season.

    Record Prediction
    Without Trent Williams, 6-10.
    With Trent Williams, 8-8.

odd line movement on su x md. started syracuse -5 , now syracuse +2. Did one big game against howard really influence betters that much to throw money at maryland? SU has no injuries so i'm assuming it shifted because of everyone betting md.

That would be my guess. I feel like UMD is underrated this year. They are better than they have been in previous years, but I might be a homer. The Howard game scoreline is meaningless, but it wasn’t too long ago that Maryland would struggle against a team like that. That’s how bad they were even though they were producing some NFL level talent.
