On @TheAthleticSCCR, I sat down w/Lucho Acosta & Ben Olsen & talked about Lucho's benching & his future with #DCU . Some great quotes from both of them & this little news nugget to boot - #RCTID were kicking the tires on Lucho during #MLS' summer window: https://t.co/NzjmjLpHQQ— Pablo Iglesias Maurer (@MLSist) August 13, 2019 “On Sunday, after starting and finishing the game in a warm-up jersey, Acosta headed straight for the locker room instead of remaining on the pitch and celebrating the victory with his teammates. That drew the ire of more than a few fans on social media. When asked about it on Tuesday, Acosta said he’d spent the hours leading up to the game dealing with a stomach illness, and that had prompted his hasty exit. A member of the team’s staff backed up his account.”
Hopefully that's accurate. I hope he comes back with a fire to show himself off to whatever team he heads to next year.
Me too - I mean I like Seattle, as a place, but I can't afford to live there. And the only local soccer team in the area I really like is UofW I immediately went and unsubscribed. Pablo's piece is an interesting read. I think I want to read too much between the lines.
For me, its not unexpected, I complain a lot about piss poor ushering, the roll back of STM benis, etc. More than likely their email marketing system is a multi-tenant solution which was implemented poorly and there's a leak between which fans belong to which teams for some reason. My guess is the lowest bidder wasn't competent and lacked good use cases to develop comprehensive QA test cases when MLS put this out for bid.
Huh...I must do something right. I've not gotten any such thing. Not even at my spam e-mail, which I use to sign up for all the contests and what not...
I signed up for the Ultrabus to Philly, my first trip there since - I think - 2014. The last time we won with a Rolfe goal 1-0.
I don't rule out Montreal on Labor Day weekend (driving), it's one of the few MLS stadiums I have not seen (the others are Cincinnati, San Jose, Vancouver, LA x 2)
That made me wonder what Rolfe was up to. https://und.com/rolfe-named-mens-soccer-director-of-operations/ It's not totally clear to me what his job will be, but best of luck to him. Seemed like a great person as well as a great player.
Chris Rolfe was one of my all-time favorites. I was thrilled when we got him. What I remember most about him is how quickly he got off a shot - hardly any windup and no wasted motion.
The "Magic Headband". I really liked him as a player and a person. I hope his concussion issues are behind him and he is enjoying life.
The thing that always stroke me about Rolfe is that at 30 something he had the body of a players at least 10 years younger, perfectly fit, not a gram of fat, he was really keeping in shape well.
One of the very pure class players MLS has had... and look Chicago stadium, packed and rocking, and look like it is now... an empty cathedral in the desert...
Montreal is one of the few MLS SSS I have been too . It's a very basic affair with some sections that are in essence fancy aluminum bleachers, and toilets on a trailer behind one goal. But seeing 18K enthusiastic fans packed in there made me realize you don't need a perfect stadium to enjoy 2 hours of football. I went to the strange one shot, one goal, three points game.
When you consider where they put SeatGeek stadium, its no wonder. It doesn't help that they don't often field a winner, but getting there from downtown is an hour plus proposition. From the wealthier northern suburbs its an hour without a stitch of traffic. I was out there on business a few weeks ago and it was hour plus combination of trains and buses to get there. The move back to Soldier Field is not optimal (a la RFK or Gillette Stadium) but if they can get themselves something SS in a more central location it would serve them well.
MEET THE TEAM DAY for STMs: this is coming up soon. Has the team distributed any information about parking?
