we are better of with buying at least one new midfielder (if not two) so Zidane won't have an excuse not to play them.

 

Im operating under the assumption that Neymar means no other reinforcements. But I just feel like the only midfield possibility is VdB anyways. Doesn’t excite me either way.

It feels like our season is going to rise and fall on whether the old guard can rediscover some form and desire. I’m not optimistic.

 

The rumored price difference between VdB and Eriksen is 20M. For that amount we should get Eriksen.

To be honest, i'm surprised we haven't signed Eriksen and i am 100% confident it has to everything to do with Zidane's Pogba obsession.

 

I agree, and if Neymar was joining any other team than Barca I’d say forget him as well but we’re killing two birds with one stone with his signing, making our offense elite and prevent Barca from widening the gap between us.

No disagreement there, Eriksen and VdB aren’t on the same planet.

With that said, I want Eriksen, but I’m not sure how much he’d change this floppy, structure-less, Swiss cheese midfield.

 

It’ll eventually blow up in their faces but I’d bet they’ll win the CL this year if they sign Neymar.

 

A midfield of Casimero Modric and Eriksen could work well in a 4-2-3-1, provided we sort ourselves out structurally and tactically.

Right, there's also a chance that they bend over to Neymar's clan again, only for their half a billion investment to miss more than half the games due to injury. They probably wouldn't ever get bankrupt, but their next president would have to trim that squad a lot to make up for it and pay the loans.

 

To be honest, adding 1 or 2 players will not change much if the tactics are the same. I still don’t know what’s Zidane’s idea for the midfield or even for the style of football that we are supposed to be playing. I don't see proper pressing or proper management of space between the lines.

These things don’t really depend on having a slightly better player or 2. You can have a better midfield by having better strategy/tactics/clarity of style.

I would understand the need for a certain type of midfielders for specific roles that we are lacking, like carrying the ball forward through pressure/giving the killing pass through the middle ... etc but our problems are way deeper than that.

I think all the signings this summer are good if we use them properly. We still have issues with balance and need to make some decisions and I don't think we have enough sizzle.

In some ways this summer feels like we put 45 cents into a vending machine but a candy bar cost 50 cents, until we add 5 cents we aren't getting anything out of the machine....
