There were a few games were I was happy he came on, mostly because nobody else on the bench offered much up front. Then he'd lose the ball or hit a shot wide and i'd remember he just wasn't good enough.
Emery said he expects additional departures prior to the end of the month. I assume Elneny is gone. I think they will try very hard to move Mustafi. I don't see anyone taking Mkhi. One of the younger players like ESR could go on loan to Germany. Sounds like Mavropanos is hurt (again? still?) so I don't see a loan to Greece happening. Anyone else would be surprising.
Sad to see Iwobi go. Such is life. But I doubt that he will ever become the player that we hoped he would.
These are courtesy of @mebeSajid earlier in the thread People want to sell Iwobi for peanuts, kid is so underrated and nowhere near his peak yet. pic.twitter.com/gHMm0mqqZJ— Dezildezzz (@Dezildezzz) August 7, 2019
Dude, with all due respect, to say that Iwobi is at par with Sane or Eriksen is just nonsense. Life is too short to cling to that type of argument.
Remember when we used to argue whether Hleb was good in the pre data era by figuring out 2nd assist stats? Damn - it probably is about time for me to leave this website
Many of those people are long gone I remember making a thread about showing some support for Hleb more than a decade ago
How does an analysis like this compare to the analysis of a guy like Mustafi? It seems like Mustafi was bought based on Statdna and is statistically supposed to be very good. But he's not. Are offensive analytics more reliable than defensive?
Mustafi was great at Sampdoria, don’t know about him in La Liga but he was hyped for years in Italy. Couldn’t have been based purely on stats.
I never cared about that, I want people who want to win. So long as we don't get fleeced or cheat more than average couldn't care less about the business.
That’s not my concern. Clubs that have far more money have been damaged by these guys at times. We won’t have the resources to make up for it.
Yeah this. Now that we've got Pepe, Martinelli, Reiss Nelson in, and Iwobi out, the balance of the team has changed a little bit, to where there's more movement off the ball, less dribbling on it. There could very well be more need for a guy to get our runners the ball, and consequently more use for Ozil than we've had for a couple seasons.
Even for money I don't think we did that bad. By my count we're 80MM GBP in the hole so far, counting Saliba 30MM GBP and Pepe 70MM GBP at face value, ie, everything payable now without installments and the rest of that. If we sell Moe and Mustafi in the European window, we could get another 30MM there. After everything we've done this window, we're pretty close to being on budget.
