New here? That's rich!!! There is absolutely nothing the coach and GM could do to get fired. After 10 years the coach is 20 games under .500. There are no metrics - never have been and never will be. Don't you wish your boss gave you that kind of job security?

We had someone in our government office who would fall asleep at his desk. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ Out cold. The solution, move his desk to the back of the office where he could not be seen.

Someone where I work will fall asleep in meetings and in his office with the door open. Amazing nothing has happened to him yet.

Where I retired from, the Director of HR was narcoleptic. He would fall asleep in the middle of meetings, folks would shrug, leave, and go on about their business.

Meanwhile, my branch chief came to me and said he was considering redistributing some of my workloads so that my cow-orker could have more work to justify his grade. I said that if he did so, his efforts to lighten my workload would result in a net increase to my workload for having to fix all the stuff the other guy would mess up were that to happen.

Maybe I'll do the next 10 years with the national park service, walking around and picking up trash somewhere.

If there're any parks left, of course.

Jajaja. They will eventually push Ben out -- out of a job he did to help the team, where he was set up to fail over and over, where he never quite "got it".

Its like if your teacher said "hey, we need players on the tennis team. here's a racquet. go teach yourself tennis." with time you'd learn some tennis. you'd watch other players and make an effort to get better. but you'd still be self-taught, still be making it up. and if you were playing with real, well trained athletes, still likely to get crushed.

Ben was set up to fail. The fact that they haven't thrown him under the bus thus far is hard to understand as that would be so easy starting in 2013. But when they make the move, it will have ZERO to do with his record. It will be when some "revenue officer" figures out that they can promote Chad Ashton for free, or get the best player on the Vanuatu national team to come on a cheap to begin his coaching career.

Oh I completely agree that the owners are also to blame. So are the previous owners (Chang, et. al.) as well as the ones before that when Kevin Payne (who initially said Ben needed to get experience before he became coach then changed his tune).

Ironically these owners are big on paying for experienced proven players rather than developing talent, yet they seem content with a decade of on the job training for GM and coach.

    Pox on all their houses.

To Ben's credit, he agreed with Kevin Payne that he wasn't ready to be a head coach. For some reason Payne changed his mind,

I am just catching up based on all the rumors and discussion the last few days ..... so is DCU simply in dumpster fire mode?

okay Rooney back to the UK for multiple good reasons (from his perspective) ...

then Ozil ... sigh ... not a player to build a team around .... let him expand his coffee shops in another place (like Seattle) ....

Balotelli - please god no ....

Kamara and Boateng are ok but just fillers for slots when needed ... as you said above - they are "projects".

so how is Acosta doing ? oh that is right his head is just not there.

and Ariola and Hamid looking for greener pastures at some point?

this all comes down squarely on the coach, the GM and PRIMARILY the owner.

So if you are a quality prospective DP to build on - would you come to Audi Field right now?

At this point when we go to the bridge of the SS Minnow it's not even Gilligan in charge it is his 3 year old son. And the son has a hoodie over his face.

Honestly, I don't think Payne ever changed his mind. If you'll remember, Olsen was named "interim" manager after Curt Onolfo was sacked in 2010. United were just a mess during that period and no one wanted the job. Reports are that United interviewed at least seven candidates with no takers. So Ben soldiered on. By 2012, even Kevin Payne abandoned ship, although he probably would been pushed out if he hadn't.
I'm sure Ben has learned a few things over the years. The overall results have been poor, but occasionally he has been able to squeeze something sweet out of the trash from the dumpster. I do wonder what Ben could have done with a consistently good lineup and owners willing to invest in the club.
It looks like we're in dumpster dive mode now. So, here we go again.

correction - KP didnt voluntarily leave, let alone "abandon" the ship he built and captained; he wasn't given a choice.

Kevin, I didn't mean to offend.;)
Payne left, which is what abandon means. Abandon and leave are synonyms. As I said, he would have been forced out if hadn't left. I guess it was a face saving move.
I don't see any correction here as we're pretty much saying the same thing.
I still admire Kevin Payne. Although his leaving was probably unavoidable, I wish we had someone of his appreciation of and dedication to United on board now.

Agree the words can be used as synonyms.

But to me, particularly in the original and the follow-on explanation of this context, abandon has a negative connotation and I don't agree with the implication that it was his preference to leave or he deserted the team on his own volition. In fact, he was forced out, told to leave which was, wait for it - another Levien decision....

"oxy" "moron" as in the decisions have an 8:1 shot at being moronic?

The past few months has been horrific to watch the attack die at Acosta’s feet. The central midfield at least has the excuse of chronic injuries, but watching this team play makes you feel like no one wants to possess the ball.
