I not in with the whole "I don't blame Senor Wayne" bullsh*t. Yea he gave us memories and played hard. His family influences his decisions about what's best for them. But as a fan I'm tired of following players that don't bleed the colors. It's an inevitable consequence of players gaining more agency over the careers, which I'm all for.... But as a fan, I'm feeling a bit more F*ck you Wayne! You were never really United.

Now before the handbags come, I'm not attacking anyone on the forum. This is called venting.... Agree, disagree. Don't take it personally.

where I will disagree is someone who comes to United from the outside does not need to show lifetime loyalty to United to be United in my book. A homegrown or a draft pick yes. Wayne has done nothing but given 100% every time he put on our kit. So while I disagree with your assessment I see not fault in your beliefs.

He's been all in for the team. It's not his fault his family was unhappy here or that team management is garbage compared to what he's been used to.
I appreciate what he did, especially last year. He seems to be still putting in effort, but hadn't been as good this year.

Well, one way of looking at it would be to admit that a failure to even make it to the MLS Championship Cup during Rooney's original 2 1/2 (with a one year option) contract deal would a failure by any objective standard. But, as most of us have figured out, all Levien ever had in mind was to use Rooney as a lure to sell game day tickets and team jerseys because Levien never has had the financing to build a championship team. What's probably going on here is Kasper's sudden realization that United is looking at a major rebuild in the off-season with two stars leaving on free transfers, Arriola possibly beginning to look for greener pastures, and Hamid either going back to Europe or being loaned to another MLS team. Another consequence of this wasted season is that heads may be about to roll at the head coach and general manager level - and that may be contributing to yesterday's frenzied wheeling and dealing.

When Rooney originally got signed, I was angry and scared that DC was throwing away the future to sign a washed up old dude who was collecting one last big paycheck before retiring. I was never more wrong than in 2018.

I was somewhat less wrong in 2019.

I am obviously not a fan of this window's activity.
    • Kamara costs bunch of money, and prolly a DP next year, for a guy who is mid-season and will come in with no fitness and take weeks of play to build it up. He'll be 31 next year. Its going to be a while for him to make an impact.
    • Boetang is an exciting looking player in a highlight reel, and LAG fans call him exciting, fast as greased lightning but can't finish ... sorta key for an attacker, so he's a project, a deck chair, not guy who is going to regularly create impact.
    • Party Boy! Welcome back dude, I love to see a guy like this back at the club, but I have to ask, is he a starter for us? Who sits? Seems like a deck chair at this point in his career.
    • That f--k was a panic buy IMO. It might have been the most logical move to bring in some short term cover, but I literally can't bring myself to say his name. We'll get Moreno back game after next, but I think Durkin and Canouse are going to take longer. Maybe it was best available, but I just wish it had been anyone else, because he's never getting on the field ahead of Canouse, Moreno and Durkin and cost us an international slot. So he's a deck chair in a few weeks.
We always seem to trade away international slots cheap and buy them expensive.

This all seems very 2014. Yes we've spent some money, but its on very flawed players. Perhaps these guys are a bit younger than we'd be buying in 2014 or perhaps have a higher ceiling, but they're all suspect in the same general sorts of ways.

Other than filling an immediate short term need, I don't think we did anything to make this team a contender. I hate the Ozil talk. He's not athletic enough for MLS. Talent coming out of his ears, but he'll be a passenger most of the time the ball is not in possession, right in the middle of the field. I'd expect him to end up in Turkey if he leaves Arsenal. Not MLS, too expensive annual wages. Baeloteli is probably good for keeping us in the news. He seems like the kind of guy who would get tired of MLS really fast. Has he left any team on good terms. Is that what any of us really want?

I didn't think this window could be more disappointing than I thought it was going to be a week ago, but it smashed right through that expectation and not because of the Rooney business. The big surprise for me is that he's going to finish out the season. I genuinely thought that he was in England to hold up a jersey and get to work there. Seemed like a lot urgency for January move. I have no concerns about him working hard, at least until we are eliminated from the playoffs/contention. I don't see anything in this window that would change our current form and the 5 points I see remaining on our schedule, I am not sure gets us into the playoffs.

How much better would Rooney be if he had an engaged Lucho next to him?
Been saying this for a while.
The real question is how do they keep those fans. With Rooney on the field, there was ALWAYS the potential for moment of epic magic. Who is going to supply that next year? Who is going to be the circus lion next year?

Yeah, I don't understand. Even a club like Derby County should be able to cough up a $1M transfer fee that DC could use to replace Rooney. Maybe the "Free" transfer is buying his silence to not complain about DC United management...

Or maybe his actual contract only ever had him signed up through this year and this isn’t a surprise at all. I could see us not being able to get a Rooney like character for more than a full year.

His contract was for 2.5 years. He's leaving after 1.5.

Like Balotelli, apparently the DCU/Ozil connection has been around for a while.

And like Balotelli, Ozil would be a poor pickup unlikely to want to stay or play effectively in MLS. If you think Ben has been challenged managing Acosta, imagine either of these two!

I get the concern about the volatile Balotelli, but what has Ozil done to be mentioned in the same breath, except for being grossly overpaid?

I don't blame Ben for Acosta this year any more than I credit him for last year.

And I would expect both of those guys to be as bad or worse than Acosta this year, but not because of Ben.
