To be fair, didn't Espindola get sued for assaulting our backup goalkeeper? F them all. I hope Martins gets the Ruiz treatment from Olsen. Thx, Jay!
Here’s a name I’ve been hearing in the past could of days as one connected to a potential #DCU move, one many of you will recognize well.#LAGalaxy winger Chris Pontius. Would be kinda great to see him finish his career in DC...😮— Pablo Iglesias Maurer (@MLSist) August 6, 2019
Relax. Creating a smokescreen requires pre-meditation. Rarely are the words "pre-meditation" and "DCU Front Office" used in the same sentence.
.@LAGalaxy has sent @Emaboateng to D.C. United for cash, one of the moves the team needs to make to fund the acquisition of Argentine winger Cristian Pavon. Another @LAGalaxy deal involving another veteran player is expected this afternoon— Kevin Baxter 🇺🇦🏳️🌈 (@kbaxter11) August 6, 2019
D.C. United acquires $212,500 in Targeted Allocation Money (TAM) in 2019 from Portland for $62,500 in General Allocation Money (GAM) and an International Roster spot in 2020.— Steven Goff (@SoccerInsider) August 6, 2019
Meh. It's an attempt to rebuild a roster. Not a great attempt if you ask me. Ozil and Balotelli are extremely risky if you ask me.
So let me get this straight. Per Maurer "Here’s a name I’ve been hearing in the past could of days as one connected to a potential #DCU move, one many of you will recognize well.#LAGalaxy winger Chris Pontius. Would be kinda great to see him finish his career in DC..." Kinda great would have been to have Rooney finish his career in DC. Kinda great would be having transfer money and a plan for replacing Rooney. Kinda great would be having Pontius buy me a $200 bottle of really good single malt scotch. No part of today's news sounds kinda great to me. The team is in free fall, next year is looking like we're going to be FC Cincinnati bad.
I understand that the roster needs to be rebuilt. Look at the post I quoted. What I was referring to specifically was all the rumors of large international transfers flooding the news today. Why is it all being leaked to the media today? Maybe you believe Goff is a canny investigative reporter and not just an informed mouthpiece for DCU. As I've said, I'd like to see an Ozil signing, Balotelli, not so much. I really don't know very much about the other two internationals being mentioned. I'd love to see DCU have a truly competitive roster. I just don't think this ownership group has either the resources or the commitment to make that happen. asitis
Here comes the parade of “dc trades all its international roster spots for allocation in order to get a bunch of journeymen”
Ole Kamara is not a journeyman. The rest of their pickups may be. Martins is a horrible pickup for example. Boateng, if they get him has some real potential, but could be 's journeyman.
Balotelli and a few other international signings have been rumors for a while. Maybe Ozil was leaked today. It's not just Goff though. Many sources have been citing interest in these guys. I'd think the price for Ozil would far outpace his potential value.
We are losing the most comfortable recliner you have ever set in. We are gaining two deck chairs Talking to a potential deck chair. And rumored to be talking to someone's old worn out recliner. Yeah, Kasper is on the ball here.
I don't buy the Ozil rumor, he has been rumored very insistently in recent times about heading to Basaksehir, the only team with real money in the Turkish Superlig. Ozil has a really tight relation with Erdogan, and Erdogan is the person behind Basaksehir's curtain.
DCU needs to rebuild the roster obviously. But today's events look like panic buys and not team planning. Spending money on transfer fees for players in their late 20s? Trading for older players with Garber bucks? Yet we have younger players currently on the team who are loans. Because we didn't want to spend the money to purchase initially. This reduces the incentive to develop the player if you don't own them. The entire process is back-asswards. Why are we not investing in young talent we can keep and develop? Then sell on for a profit later...then buy more young players, develop again etc etc. This is not rocket science, it's simple team building 101. Other MLS clubs seem to know how this basic process works, how can these DCU knuckleheads not? I hope a couple of these pickups pan out. I really do. But DCU is spending money on players older players who will have lower or ZERO future resale value. They will only lose money overall on these players they are acquiring. Aston Villa did this exact thing for years... It was maddening.
These moves reek of Kasper saying, "we've got one last chance with Rooney." They're Cup-or-bust type decisions, like he's been making all year -- like the McCann and Pedroso pickups, sacrificing future assets (I think: I can't keep up with all the money schemes) for next week's games. But we're not one deck chair away from the Cup. When everyone is healthy, we're not good enough. And Felipe sure as shit gonna up our game that much. R.
Depends on your definition of a journeyman. Given your definition of a deck chair, we might differ on this one too.
