Lopez in goal for lo Dos. Dunbar started on the left. Dos coaches have been riding him a bit. Seems like they’re focusing on him a lot but he hasn’t done anything too good or bad
USA up 2-0 before half. Andres Jasson, who has been very good, with the assist. Noah Jones with the goal. Good, patient build-up from the U17s before the goal. Kobe played the pass that sent Jasson in before the cross— J.R. Eskilson (@JREskilson) August 6, 2019 It’s 2-0 at half. Noah Jones had another chance right before half but Eric Lopez made a good save to keep it 2-0 for the U17 MNT.— J.R. Eskilson (@JREskilson) August 6, 2019
Saldana on for Tomkinson. USA moving into a 4-3-3 for second half— J.R. Eskilson (@JREskilson) August 6, 2019 3-0 USA Noah Jones again. Adam Armour with the assist - nice cross. Jones was wide open for the finish.— J.R. Eskilson (@JREskilson) August 6, 2019 de Vries on for Yow after the third goal. USA 3-0— J.R. Eskilson (@JREskilson) August 6, 2019 Cuevas, Dobbelaere, and Fuentes on. Jones, Armour and Dietz off— J.R. Eskilson (@JREskilson) August 6, 2019 Tayvon Gray also came on. He just scored on a corner kick from Kobe. And then AOC scored a minute later— J.R. Eskilson (@JREskilson) August 6, 2019
AOC with another goal. Tayvon Gray with the assist. 7-0 USA— J.R. Eskilson (@JREskilson) August 6, 2019 AOC with another goal. Tayvon Gray with the assist. 7-0 USA— J.R. Eskilson (@JREskilson) August 6, 2019 U15s. First half had mostly Los dos— J.R. Eskilson (@JREskilson) August 6, 2019 That's insulting. The U17s were supposed to get a competitive match.
Are they really playing the LA Galaxy School for the blind? Can an LAG2 fan tell us why they are so bad? Or did the U17 team suddenly get very good? Edit to add, I see now they were playing the LAG U15 DA team. Kind of waste of time there US soccer.
According to JR Eskilson the first half was mostly Los Dos (along with some better DAs, like Dunbar). The only guess about the U15 players is that maybe the coaches came to an agreement beforehand. However, having the LAG U15s play the U17 MNT is a real stretch.,
If they indeed ran out the U15s (05 players) in the second half to play the U17 National team (02 players) then that seems a waste of time. Better to just have an intersquad scrimmage. First half of only 2-0 sounds reasonable.
FT: USA 7-0 LAG 2.— J.R. Eskilson (@JREskilson) August 6, 2019 That scoreline says it all- a waste of time. After this I hope U.S. Soccer tells the LAG that they'll need some assurances in the future that YNTs will only play them if they field legitimately competitive sides.
Could have left a day earlier or at least left earlier today. Some players getting home after midnight because this match was scheduled.
next time maybe the u17s go to cal state la instead of cal state dominguez hills for an la based opponent
First half was very even. Dos needed a 10 to help create, but Carrera and Tomkinson did a good job on the right side. One of them (didn’t see which) got absolutely torched early but the Galaxy player missed a wide open goal. Galaxy mostly avoided Kobe. The Galaxy had an even share of the possession, maybe more. U17s had most of the chances, but it’s certainly not like they dominated. The 3-3-3-1 with Kayo as the 6 meant there was a huge hole in the middle of the field any time we lost the ball. Galaxy had plenty of room to run through the middle third but the 3 CBs did a good job of shutting down the counters. 2nd half Galaxy players were shell shocked and gave up the 5 goals quickly. Once they settled in, the game was a little more even, although the US still controlled the game.
A couple of the US u-17's were Los Dos players, so it was even a neutered opponent in the first half apparently, although maybe something useful was learned about Jasson and Carrera, if reports are correct, and given they play at positions of need. Also got a look at Dunbar against their own defenders I guess. So maybe he could crossover like Jordan Morris did a few years ago, if he impressed. Although he didn't tally. Not the most fruitful exercise though for sure and bad scheduling.
None of the u17 US Galaxy II players play much in the USL. At least they haven’t yet. They each have played 2 games so far. Jasson was good but he didn’t look very fast. Still had some 1v1 ability and creativity. The goal he scored was a sliding kick from about 8 yards out off a quick set piece from Yow. He has that ability and desire to make the right play in the moment. Carrera was still Carrera. He was good and made some really good plays to help get the ball forward, but had a head scratching play or two. Dunbar didn’t earn his place back on the team. I thought he was decent, but he didn’t really create any chances. The fact that Jasson did probably means Dunbar was pushed a little further down the list.
I would not expect many (or any) changes from the last camp. Wicky is already telling players that they are on or aren’t on the WC team. He’s also said in the media that he doesn’t want to make many changes from qualifying.
If he doesn't call in Bello and Pynadath due to circumstance and given their alternatives such as Armour's and Freeman's performances; he's doing a disservice to the program and that would be the first strike against him in a tenure that started out promising. So we'll see what happens.
Why Pynadath? By all accounts I read, the last time he came into camp, he was unimpressive and not ready to contribute. Has he been performing particularly well in the youth league to make us think that was an incorrect assessment or that he's improved?
Yes, and I don't know that he had to, just get over injuries. Unfortunately you never get a second chance to make a first impression.
bello otoh seems more likely to get ynt minutes with atlantas blessing now just because otherwise this is perilously close to a lost development year for him?
I’d be a little surprised if Jasson didn’t get called in. From everything I read, he played very well vs OCSC and was a standout in camp. He was easily the best attacker vs LAGII. If you aren’t going to call him in and have him in your World Cup plans, why have the camp and invite him in the first place?
I think all players at the most recent camp are in contention (players get injured, coaches change their mind, some players might not be released), but aside from those players, Bello, Pepi, Reyna, Leyva, Scally and Odunze, I don't think anyone else has a realistic chance to be on the team.
