One of Ozil's reps will meet with DCU officials next week in Washington, I'm told.— Steven Goff (@SoccerInsider) August 6, 2019
D.C. United has just traded with Vancouver for veteran midfielder Felipe Martins. Financial stuff goes to the Whitecaps. Martins, 28, has appeared in 18 matches this season, 13 starts.— Steven Goff (@SoccerInsider) August 6, 2019 FTRB
This is far worse news than Rooney leaving. I am not going to stop rooting for a Felipe injury just because he's wearing a DC United shirt. I blame whoever suggested we re-sign Carlos Ruiz for this deal.
Unless they plan on getting rid of Olsen, this move makes no sense. He doesnt fit Olsens style of player. Also, Olsen has had trouble with players like Stieber, Acosta, Boskovic.... Ozil is undoubtedly better than all of them, but wont run around like a headless chicken like Ben used to do as a player. Just to add, apparently Mario has offers from Flamengo in Brazil.
He can also play too. I know people here dont like him. But he has been a very solid midfielder in MLS.
@benni..., I saw the Flamingo rumors, too. But, given that this isn't the first time DCU has been linked to Balotelli, you start to wonder if there's not more to it.
I was kidding! I WAS KIDDING! Then again, how much "disruption" could he inflict on this particular locker room, in its current state?
I know Ozil is a very talented footballer...but he is NOT a good idea. Ozil will not suit Olsen at all, he has no grit. Imagine the locker room and on-field problems when he realizes nobody has his footy IQ or vision?
Ozil would be an Acosta replacement. I think he'd play about as much defense as Acosta does now and probably wouldn't sulk every time things didn't go his way. Balotelli--no thank you. My only hope is that Martins and Ibra destroy each other this Sunday. asitis
Among the players on #DCU's radar - the club is actively in negotiations with the #LAGalaxy to try and acquire midfielder Ema Boateng, multiple sources confirm to @PaulTenorio and I. More on that as it develops.— Pablo Iglesias Maurer (@MLSist) August 6, 2019 This is the biggest DCU news day in terms of sheer volume in a very long time.
Bunch of noise. The likeliest things happening are getting the guy who purposely injured our major goalscorer in 2014 or getting the guy no one wants from LA
Please, God, no. And if you think it can't get worse, there's this: D.C. United has just traded with Vancouver for veteran midfielder Felipe Martins. Financial stuff goes to the Whitecaps. Martins, 28, has appeared in 18 matches this season, 13 starts.— Steven Goff (@SoccerInsider) August 6, 2019
One more rumor for the silly season bin: French striker Loïs Diony is wanted by DC United. He currently plays for Saint-Étienne. He scored 5 goals and 1 assist in Ligue 1 last season. He is 26-years-old and is valued at $5.7 million. (France Football) #DCU pic.twitter.com/mQ0oQAC62k— MLS Transfer Zone (@MLS_ZONE) August 6, 2019
I saw a couple of other tweets linking Diony to United, too, so it's been knocked around a couple places today. Interesting on the Ola Kamara front: Adding to this: Sources tell me that, despite the $2.5m transfer fee, Kamara will not hit above the DP threshold in 2019. D.C. able to get him on a relatively low salary. Status could change in future due to various conditions in contract, potential new MLS rules. https://t.co/iakhcnrcEp— Sam Stejskal (@samstejskal) August 6, 2019
I wonder if this is all just smokescreen to distract from the obvious disappointment of Rooney leaving. It's like saying, "Look over here. We're on top of it. Even better things are coming. And be sure to renew your season tickets." I'll believe it when it happens. Sounds about right. asitis
In easily the least insane #DCU news of the day, this: pic.twitter.com/QAi6YM2fl1— Pablo Iglesias Maurer (@MLSist) August 6, 2019
I'm sad to report that on July 1, 2019, Christian Gomez retired from Nueva Chicago at age 44. One of the all time greats at DCU, why can't we find players of his caliber today?
